Grain trays vs Brf cakes
    #20199097 - 06/28/14 02:06 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

Hello everybody I'm new to this forum and I'm fixing to attempt to try growing P. Cubensis mushrooms. I was just wondering what are the differences between growing from grain trays opposed to Brf cakes as in terms of which one is more difficult and which one has more yield?

Grain trays as in trays that have colonized grain poured into them and then cased? Because that is easier than cakes and has more yield.

Can I just inoculate a grain jar by cutting off a piece of mycelium on a Brf cake or does it have to be done another way?

yeah, but you have to do that in a SAB and before the cake is 'birthed'

If at all possible, before or at 100% colonization, try to get to the cake before it starts "shrinking away" from the jar; and try to avoid stirring up the verm layer in your SAB.

so yeah, it's possible.

edit:

as a matter of fact, you may want to let the cake conosolidate 100% wash it off under the tap, then tear it open and snag a piece from the inside, same principle behind taking a culture tissue, but with more culture to work with

Theoretically possible, but not practical.

It can be done as long as you used a proper filter to keep cake sterile instead of using a dry vermiculite layer.

It should be done in a SAB and all utensils should be flame sterilized.

Good luck
