I found these while hunting near Stevenson WA in a cow pasture. Many were growing either directly out of dung. Taking spore prints now.

They look interesting (nice photo, too).

When you get the spore print, also write up a bit of a description for us. Don't waste time telling us things we can get from the photo (like cap color, for example). Instead, tell us things we can't see (or that aren't obvious from the photo), like bruising reaction, odor, if parts of the mushrooms are slimy or sticky, etc.

Happy mushrooming!

Does anyone think the ones on the left look like pan subbs? I can see there is a mix of hay and grass... just an idea. don't take it as an ID. peace

I took a spore print and it seems to be a darkish brown with maybe a slight tint of purple. The stems are a soft tan to light brown and barely bruise to a darker brown. The gills are chocolate brown and attach to the very top of the cap. They smell like crimini store bought mushrooms. I think they might be these-

pan foens do not grow directly from dung and not very much on wild pastures but more on lawns. but it could be them.

It does sound like it might be those...although I am not sure. Panaeolus foenisecii usually do have browner gills than Panaeolus subbalteatus, which usually show more of a gray, and have a black spore print. ...so it probably isnt a subb. Subbs will also bruise blue, sometimes barley at all, but if you look at the base of the stem you should be able to see a little bit, or when they are drying out a bit. Hey...maybe next time. peace
