spontanoeus rebooting
    #2014739 - 10/16/03 01:30 PM (20 years, 6 months ago)

my fucking computer keeps on spontanoeusly rebooting. idunno why. ive got norton 2003 and agnitum firewall pro and shit. i scan my drive for viruses, some malware are removed. computer still crashes and reboots spontaneously.

WTF?

in fact since this has been happening, ive been unable to complete a virus scan because it reboots itself for fun in less time than a scan takes.

whatdoido?

turn off 'reboot on system failure' that way, when there is a problem, you will get a nice blue screen that will tell you why it fucked up.

It's NT/2000/XP but not 95/98 not sure about Me but no-one should have that peice of shit anyway.

Right-click on 'My Computer' then go to Properties->Advanced->Start-up and Recovery and under 'System Failure' uncheck 'Automatically reboot'

Then instead of rebooting it should crash and say something like UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (0x0000 etc..)
note down the error message and the 4 sets of numbers in brackets after it.

I dont know much about X86 but ...... [Re: MetaShroom]

I was having these type of problems with a old mac some years ago and it turned out to be a hardware issue so basicly what would happen was the power would get cycled one way to trouble shoot for a hardware problem could be to turn off the restart on power loss in the bios if it has that option I have dell here that has that option but it is pretty much the only intel type architechture machine I have ever really used so this is just a idea damn dude if its a virus take your windows CD and put it in the trash and get a copy of a linux distro its free too plus very few virii for it and they tend to do less damage unless you run as root all the time

does windows have crash log?
if it does that could be a good starting point
