The problem most likely is that they are running out of oxygen. You could try loosening the lids a bit. This can be a delicate procedure since it can let in contaminants, but, if the top halves of the jars are colonized and you have a vermiculite seal, you have a margin of safety. If you have the holes in the lids taped, you could try removing the tape and possibly turning the jars upside down. This should allow the excess co2 to settle out.

CO2 eh? makes sense.... I really appreciate the response!! I have seen another post saying something similar to this and that after the removal of the tape the jars had a quick resurgence of growth. I'll give it a try and if worse comes to worse I can alway start over and try again. I refuse to give up! I won't quit untill I get shroomies! heheheh... thanx SpaceFarmer!..........whoa, I'm a senior member now....heheheheheh, cool!

Your temps could be part of the problem. 72 is a little chilly for our friends

I'd just like to let you knwo that SpaceFarmer was right! It was definently the CO2 content in the jars... they are all virtually 100% colonized in 1 week. They all gained the growth vigor they had that 2nd week after innoculation. Casing half of the 12 in the next couple of days. gonna let half flush as cakes first and then case them too. I'll letcha know how things work out... thanks again SpaceFarmer!
