B+ ride along (MS using new monotub tek)

Turned these

into this

and this..

Casing tonight
These 66 QT tubs are using my filters I came up with as a new alternative to stuffing the bottom holes with polyfil. They are taped on the outside while they finish colonization. Here's a link to the tek Dilated's Ironed Polyfil Filters for Monotubs
updates to come!

Actually I turned 2 jars into 10 jars but 5 of them were spawned into the tub that you see colonizing. And the other 5 are finishing up colonization.. 2 of those jars are just about finished.

Hmm, IMO that is a very high spawn rate for both G2G and the tub. I was reading a few days ago that it's best to let a high-spawn ratio tubs consolidate for a few extra days, because the grain is so nutritious it takes longer to colonize AKA digest.
I used double my normal spawn ratio last batch and did not notice a positive difference, I normally use 4 colonized pints to 1 brick coir, 2qts verm +additives.
Beautiful looking tub

5 jars for a 66 QT tub is very normal. And consolidation is for BRF cakes to digest the verm. I'm pretty sure any other TC would tell you the same thing. I've never consolidated yet with monotubs or jars and have had great success. All the teks I've read never suggested consolidating grains or tubs. I'm sure cron will chime in with his expert opinion.

Dang I wish I could find the link, it was something RR said. It made since while reading it haha. (Not so) quick question, why exactly do people use high spawn rates? To colonize faster, ok yes but it would have colonized more sub if done at a lower ratio so that cancels out. To beat contams? No, you can spawn without gloves.

5 Jars isn't a high spawn ratio, most cultivators use 6 or more.

Looking good. I use 6 quarts for 66qt tubs so yah that spawn rate isn't that high. I let my tubs consolidate until they start to knot which generally happens within 2 or 3 days of 100% colonisation.

6 qts spawn, how much sub? It doesn't mater the size of the tub lol, that has nothing to do with ratios.
5 qts is a higher ratio than 4 pints, thus making 5 qts a high spawn ration, relatively.
It's funny how nobody was able to answer my previous question, it's just hey lets do what everyone else does without even knowing why.

No 4 pints is a low spawn ratio...people use that amount cause causits the perfect mix (opinion) between colonization time, amount of spawn you need to create, and yield. If you colonize the same amount of bulk sub with 4 pints you will get les mushrooms then if you spawned 6qt to it, most of the nutes come from the grains, the bulk sub adds some but mostly just holds lots and lots of water

When a mono is made correctly the sub depth should be consistently around 3.5 inches so when you use more spawn you will be using less sub and the ratio go's up. I use about 11 or 12 quarts of sub to 6 quarts of spawn for about a 1:2 ratio when making tubs. When making trays I go 1:1. The reason I use a high ratio is I like the fast colonisation and lots of nuts for later flushes. It only costs me around 16 cents to make a quart of spawn so I really don't care how far I can stretch it.

Oh and muda, if I may ask where do you buy your grain and what do you use? I've been buying wheat at bulk barn for like a buck a pound. I know that's kinda pricey but I like the quality.

I bucket pasteurise almost everything. Well I've got one tray of PE that I did at a 2:1 ratio spawn to coffee that I didn't pasteurise. I just ran the coffee threw my coffee maker three times, let cool and spawned. PH is something I really only pay attention to when using peat moss for a casing layer. I Have used many different grains but now I use whole oats from the feed section at TSC. I get 25kg for less than $20 that works out to about 30 cents a pound and one pound will make two quart jars.

Ok that's all very good to know, sorry I edited that post asking all the question because I realized how badly I jacked OP's thread. Figured I tarnished it enough, sorry dialated, if it makes you feel better I got a lot of questions I've been wondering about answered haha.
I'm trying really hard to think what TSC is but coming up empty. That's really interesting you use oats. Thanks for answering everything so professionally.

I have used 6 to very good avail but 5 seems to work just right for me I may try to let things knot up a bit more soon. But if it's not broke why fix it.. ya know?

Ok I thought I had answered your question sufficiently, you insinuated that I had used too high of a ratio though braj...That isn't the case (5 fully colonized QTs of spawn, 2 QTs of verm and a brick of coir) My point was that I used less then what most people use. And 4 pints of spawn? What the hell are you spawning too brother man lol

I used 6 QT's of spawn and got 8 flushes so I can see why you would use that many. But my grows have been MS so far so my results are really a crap shoot so far. But seriously I been very happy SUPPORT YOUR SPONSORS!

Here's my first B+ pinset and I must say.. wow.. looking so much more dense then the other cubes I've used with monotubs so far. I'm really excited for this one. If anyone would like to take a wager on dry weight for the first flush, I'll gladly send a print. Must be closest without going over (must have at least 5 ratings of 5 cubes or better on your profile or 200 posts).
