Inoculation
    #2015614 - 10/16/03 07:30 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

I have just inoculated my first batch of jars (eight 1 pint jars with a substrate of BRF and Verm) ever. I used roughly 2.5 cc's of inoculate in each jar, and am storing them at a steady 76? Fahrenheit.

My question is: Should I tape the four holes I used to inoculate the jars or can I leave them open?

As this is my first time I would like to avoid possible contamination wherever I can. Thanks.

up it to 86 if you can, and leave the holes untaped - you have a dry verm layer, right?

Yes, I do have a layer of dry vermiculite on top.

Will any adverse effects other than longer colonization time result from storing them at 76??

It will take longer to fully colonize. I don't tape my holes but I leave the foil top on.
