Opened 'The Perennial Philosophy' by Aldous Huxley a couple days ago.  It is pretty heavy so it may take a while, but just after the first couple chapters I am hooked.

Patrick Rothfuss - The Name of the Wind. Amazing book, easy to get lost in the pages. Highly recommend.

Bruce Sterling gave faaar better interviews and SXSW talks than he ever did novels, in my opinion...

Mount Analogue by Rene Dumal.

Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck.

Learning some good California history in it. The themes of machine replacing man and mass production remind me of The Jungle, but like a west coast version.

psychology of the unconscious  by Jung.  Haven't read THAT many books but still I haven't read anything quite like this.  Has hooked me up with a few "filters of understanding" that are new to me.  I am about 190 pages in and basically, from what I can tell, the message is that human culture and creativity technology etc develops as an extension of the base sexual libido.  The libido is repressed sexually and is then transferred into non sexual areas of involvement like technology, culture.  So I feel like his main premise is that the energy and drive of sex/reproduction is the main energetic source for us and from which every thing else is driven..

If you've read it and understood it then by the love of god let me hear what you think

the only thing i've attempted to read from him is the difference engine (which he wrote with william gibson - neuromancer marked the start of my adult reading career). i've tried finishing it since i was 12 multiple times and i just can't do it. i'd be interested in giving him another go though. i'd be interested in hearing his interviews too.

Infinite Jest by DFW right now. Around 200 pages in, things are starting to connect and I'm liking it a lot.

DFW is my favorite author and Infinite Jest is my favorite book. I love that it is so long. It really gets you into the world and the characters.

Just finished Blood and Gold by Anne Rice, now working on The Vampire Armand. Figured it's time to catch up before the release of Prince Lestat and the following sequel Blood Paradise.

I'll have to check out his talks when I get the chance. Also added Schismatrix to my queue, thanks for mentioning.

Bought a cute reprint of one of those 60's "how to" books: "A Guide to Elegance: For Every Woman Who Wants to Be Well and Properly Dressed on All Occasions." Thought it would be one of my joke books but I ended up liking it a lot. Interesting advice I've never been taught as an American woman in ~today's times~

Just finished 1984 by Orwell and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Wilde. Now I'm reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Kensey. I've seen bits and pieces of the movie but I plan on watching the whole thing after I'm done with the book.

Next one on my list is The Plague by Albert Camus.

The Picture of Dorian Gray is really good. The only part I didn't really like was the whole chapter describing all the random stuff in a room or whatever. Also Gummo!

About to finish 'Damned' by Chuck Palahniuk.  Decent read, but not any where near as well written as some of his other books.

i'm reading image comics the manhattan projects. the premise is if the manhattan project was actually a cover up for the government's much weirder, vastly sinister projects. science gone bad starring a cast of all your favorites. einstein is a ruthless alcoholic, robert oppenheimer is a cannibal with an infinite amount of twins and president roosevelt is a supergenius AI.

i'm not saying you should probably read it, but you should probably read it.
