We have everything up here pretty much, wolves, cougars, black bears, brown bears.

Crazy stuff, hopefully I don't get eaten hiking around alone out here

oh shit, that's crazy. the scariest thing we have around here in new England is poison ivy and hornets nesting in the ground. i mean falling injuries end up bad too when hiking. i have seen a mountain lion on seven different occasions over the past 10 years or so. the first time we were up at 330 to go worm picking then hit this stream that runs into a resovior that's illegal to be at but i swear i can slam 30 bass there in 2 hours all over 3 lbs. we turned into the field to pick worms and there was a fucking mountain lion on the edge of the field 40 feet in front of us with 2 cubs. as we pulled in a second lion jumped over the rock wall at the field edge with a  third cub in her mouth she put it down they kind of looked at us for 5 or 10 seconds like what the fuck, who the fuck do you think you are coming in this field with that truck then walked off down the field and into the woods.

I would love to see a wild bobcat. I've seen a black panther cross the road in front of me before. Then on another occasion I was a black panther with two smaller brown ones.

Great story, I would love to see something like that.  There's something really special about seeing an animal like that in the wild, it's like you can sense their power.

2 days before Christmas I looked out my window and heard a cat crying, I looked down and there was a bobcat kitten laying under a window leaned against my house crying purfusely. I left her there for 2 more nights without disturbing her or going anywhere near her and she cryed louder and louder every night. I waited 2 days for mama to come back but she never did and there was no tracks from her in the yard or surrounding area so I took her in. she fit in the palm of my hand at the time, she weighed ten and a half pounds 2 weeks ago and gets bigger every day. ohh and I named her lucy :sun:

Holy shit!  Can you post pics?

They look quite similar to the bobcat yeah?  I like looking at photos of the ones that live in snow.  It would be so awesome to see one.

Sounds exciting.  If you go out hiking/camping do you hear lots of interesting noises around?  Can you even go out camping safely?  Here in Aus, although we have a lot of deadly creatures, mainly snakes and spiders, they rarely bother you.  Although you have to watch out for snakes around your property if you have children around.  Kangaroos are extremely timid and won't let you get close, although they are fierce fighters when they want to be.  Actually I take that back, I live up north in the tropics and crocodiles are very common.  There are deaths semi-frequently, but usually when people are being stupid.  2 drunk guys swam through croc infested waters late last year to be tough or whatever, one made it across, the other got eaten.  We have 5 metre long crocs up here, they're basically dinosaurs.

I chased a skunk out of my obsidian mine camp yesterday. I was running literally 10' behind him yelling at him. I'm amazed he didn't try to spray me. There wasn't even a skunk odor in the air. He was a big one though. I could have easily grabbed him by the tail.

its total fucking bullshit that it sat outside less than 3 pounds for 2 and a half days with a foot and a half of snow and not a single visit from its mother. it would have died, i saved its life. and its not "a little fucking pet" shes an amazing creature that interacts wonderfully around my family and others as well. shes more than happy and loving to live the life she does.

Exactly, which is why it doesn't belong in your house. You might think it's cute now but you're fucking that cat over big time. Sorry if you're offended by that but the truth is harsh.

like I said if I did not think I could care for it I would have brought it somewhere where that has the abilities as well as I to raise it properly. she doesn't just sit around my house. we have more land than we know what to do with, we live in the woods. the house is always open. she comes and goes as she pleases. we have four goats and they are fine around her and shes fine around them, sometimes she actually sleeps with them in the pen. my mothers dog is more of a hassle to live with and take care of than this cat.

if she wanted too she could take off at any point, but she loves us and we love her. we take a walk before supper about every night for an hour through the woods and the goats and cat stumble around through the woods right by our side. shes pampered, I cant see how im fucking the cat over at all by saving its life and giving it a warm loving home with loving creatures around it, rather than leaving it out to probably freeze and die and amount to nothing. totally makes sense right? yeah

I was hiking with a friend and my dog today when we saw a bobcat cross the trail ahead of us up a hillside. when we got up to where it had crossed, we saw it taking down a squirrel in a big oak tree about 10-15 feet away. there was this crazy thrashing of orange/white fur with the squirrel bitching about the whole ordeal. it was over in about 2 seconds but was one of the most awesome wildlife experiences ever. pretty exciting for my dog too. she loves chasing squirrels. it seemed like the bobcat was using us as a decoy since the squirrel was likely watching us and my dog as we climbed the hill.

Cool, very cool!  I used to hunt them 40 years ago before I knew better. I only killed one and that was the end of it for me. I totally regret that act of senseless violence.

Once when fishing a remote canyon above the Smith River in Northern California Redwoods near Gasquet,  I inadvertently trapped one against a cliff wall at about 40ft.  We stared intently into each others eyes and then it charged me head on.
When it got to within several feet of me it was able then to have another route of escape and jumped to the side and up a tree about 50 ft high. This all happened in less than a second and before I really could even react.  If he had full on attacked my guess is he could have easily killed me even though I doubt he weighed 25 lbs.  They are amazingly beautiful animals.

I have gone on 12 hour hikes for 25 kilometers on a mountain with cougars by myself and I never saw one. The fear of being attacked by wild animals is fairly irrational. It is more likely to attack your pets or small children. And ya no one should keep a bobcat captive.

It is unwise to keep it with you.  Highly territorial, will draw in the males, produce offspring, your other animals may die, etc.  If you value your other animals to a lesser degree, realize that the owners of adjoining properties may feel otherwise toward their own children and animals.  The male bobcats that she will eventually draw in have a much larger, overlapping territory...
