Light on growing cakes............
    #2014013 - 10/16/03 10:30 AM (14 years, 6 months ago)

"The incubator should never see the light of day. Light initiates pinning. Incubators are for colonization. If you initiate pinning on a substrate that is not fully colonized, you will not like the results." Line borrowed from DiMiTriSouljah

I have read and seen this many times. What sticks out is that very strong word NEVER. This is where my problem originates. Along with this advice, I have also read many times to check my jars daily for contams. SO: How do I check for contams without any light?

Also, I have seen TONS of pics of colonizing jars, are those people just throwing away good cakes, just to photgraph for our benefit???

Any help would be appreciated. I seem to keep running into contradictions, so you may see me post every so often. :wtf:

Contradictions piss this guy off:

Sems to be water pressed up against the inside of the jars by the mycelial growth. Is this common? (PF Tek)

Well hell, guess no one has an answer for this. I'll check back some other time.

It just shouldn't be exposed to any extended amount of light. Light exposure is only done when premature primordia formation is wanted (neglect, invitro)obvioulsly you have to expose it somewhat to check up on them. A couple seconds or even a minute of exposure won't hurt at all.

liquid in the jars: could be just mycal piss, or a bad ratio. check for contams and SMELL IT.

Sorry, but due to circumstances beyond my control, I am unable to respond to this post. Im sure some kind member will be happy to point you in the right direction.
