Bulk Grow on "Hemp"

A FOAF has been growing cubensis for some time. He has used manure, compost, and straw for bulk casings but has recently come into a pile of hemp shake with all the buds taken out. He was wondering if anyone has tried growing on hemp as a bulk substrate or has any reason it would not work. Any input would be appreciated.

I think it was hippie that grew on a HP of WW. I would just make hash. And grow shrooms on a $1-10 bale of hay then smoke the hash whilst tripping.

Are you talking hemp, or bud? I can see you using hemp that's used for hemp jewelery or other stuff... go down to Hobby Lobby or some place like that and pick up the fattest hemp you can find, chop it into small pieces, and put it in a blender. You'll come out with something kind of like coco fiber, but not as long. I don't know how much water hemp holds, but it's worth a try.

Hemp is ok as a substrate additive, but a poor choice for substrate on its own. The qp of WW was more for the joke than anything else. I was actually surprised it fruited as well as it did. Nugs grow mycelium better than plain hemp fibers do.

What if you soak the hemp in a nutrient broth?
Like, buy some hemp twine at the Ye Olde Craft Shop, cut it up into .5" or .25" pieces. Then simmer that in 50/50 coffee/water mix with maybe some karo, maybe other shit that mushies like. Then after that is done simmering, plop it into jars and PC it. Then inoculate it. Spores might sprout, but I think you would have a better chance with a liquid myc. culture.
You might want to try adding some spent coffee grinds. Also, make sure your PH is right.
That may or may not work. Try it.

In that case, some nice burlap should work as well, as it's very similar to twine. And lots of twine these days is made from 'jute' and not hemp since it's somewhat difficult for farmers to have farms full of weed (even though it's agricultural grade and has no "goodies" in it anyhow, it looks the same - so the drug war would be harder to fight if farmers could easily hide "good" stuff in their crops of "industrial fiber" stuff). Or at least that's the excuse for not letting many farmers grow it, even though it's a ridiculously useful and lucrative crop even aside from fibers (oils, other extracts, etc). Also, the oils from hemp could be used in place of diesel fuels and even possibly be refined further to use in gasoline engines, which would crash the oil industry, which we know nobody wants for some reason. The germans ran 100% hemp based fuels in their WW2 vehicles and it worked great, and was very cheap. Therefore, another 'conspiracy fact' about the prohibition of all Cannabis, even hemp - the oil companies don't want it to be grown or used. Lame. Rant over, sorry.

You're also forgetting that you can get as much paper pulp from one acre of hemp plants as you can 4 acres of trees... such misuse of land makes me upset. we could literally be "saving the rainforest."
i'm sure you could use it in a casing layer. it's not super nutritious, and i'm sure it holds SOME water.
speaking of the rainforest, i'd like to see what mushroom john would find in the amazon rain forest if he went there.

he might find commies, or druglords, or natives. he might need a guide.
you made my day.

For better results, ya should concentrate on using straw as your base for bulk. Don't waste yer time with hemp, it been done before.

and this is what I did. Side by side Hemp fiber vs Straw to grow cubensis. Hemp fiber worked better than straw. https://mycotopia.net/topic/90525-side-by-side-hemp-poo-vs-straw-poo-substrate/

I have the pictures up loaded in a file but don't know how to get them into a box with text. I tried for 2 hours and couldn't do it. How do you get the pictures from a folder into a text box and in the right order of presentation?

just try it now with one pic. u have to have two tabs open, one with ur pics, and one with the thread u are posting in/creating. u have to copy and paste the BBC code underneath the picture into the text box of the thread u are typing in. by clicking the code tho, u actually automatically "copy" it, and then u just need to paste it into the text box wherever u want the pic to show
