yup 5000K CFL's will work FINE. Been using those and also some 8000k vegging lights for plants. I have seen no difference in fruit growth between these 2 lights spectrums. Though they say 6500K is optimum. =However, I personally wouldn't go below the 5000K and you should do fine. Just my opinion from past personal experience.

I did just have it near a window, but I bought a 5000k(thinking it was 6500k) 100 watt equivalent cfl in my ceiling fan, and my new shotgun terrarium on a dresser . only been like 5 hours and the caps already look fatter.

A light on the ceiling will have no effect.  Put the CFL within a few inches of the terrarium.

Yes that's better. I'd try to get a little more perlite in the bottom of that shotgun though and raise it up off the table (On jars or something similar). You need air to be able to pass underneath the tub and up through the holes on the bottom and up through the perlite for it to work properly.

get a tub, a clear one with a clear lid and burn holes in it with a heated socket. you will be using it for years. promise

just went and bought one. putting it together now. will perlite with fertilizer hurt anything? can I just rinse it off well? and look at how big thieve gotten in the shitty terrarium :o

idk what's up with the tiny caps though.

sorry, been mad working.  Yes, just rinse it off well.  i usually scrub with dish soak in the bath tub or garden hose.  If its a long tub, i use one of those paper thing to hold the sides up to the edge of the lid as sometimes it slacks inward and dust can get in.  Other than that, just find a good light and a timer (optional) and your set. Also, lately ive been laying a thermal blanket over my grows to help as a light reflector.  you can put perlite or make a casing.

I have to have my air conditioner on in my room at just about all times to keep the temp down to around 72-75.

is the air blowing going to mess with the terrariums natural current?
