well, this is my first grow.
Its been 2 weeks since inoculation of my ban hua thanon, using brf/verm pf tek and 1 of the 3 jar is 100% colonized and consolidating now.
my former mushroom growing friend gave me this as a fruiting chamber and said it worked like a charm without perlite, because the cakes are held above a tray of water. http://
sorry for the crappy phone picture.
do you think this a good choice cake cakes?? I'm scared they might grow too tall.
Also, could I cut my cakes in half and have the two halves fruiting like cakes?? thanks, in advanced honest opinion strongly welcomed!!!

No offense to you or your friend, but that is stupid.
Without lots of air circulation there is no way a pan of water provided enough humidity....this is why we use perlite, and allow air to pass thru it.

If you got miracle grow perlite it's fine just rinse it with soap, that's what I did and for no algae which is common with that brand

I did just have it near a window, but I bought a 5000k(thinking it was 6500k) 100 watt equivalent cfl in my ceiling fan, and my new shotgun terrarium on a dresser . only been like 5 hours and the caps already look fatter.

I've searched and cant find any specs other than 1/4 inch holes 2 inches apart perlite 3-5 inches , is that all there is to it?

yup.. Good lighting, 1/4 inch holes every 2 inches in a grid like pattern, holes in all 6 sides, bottom, top. I've found best that wet perlite works good at 4 to 5" and if you are doing cakes, don't directly set the cakes on the perlite. and make sure the SGFC is off the ground so that air can flow through the bottom holes.
