Reanimation
    #20134594 - 06/15/14 02:32 PM (9 years, 8 months ago)

New to this hobby. Been doing my due home work and feel I have the knowledge and almost all the materials put together. Due to my zip code I'm missing a vital element. Can I reanimate and culture from a dried and frozen specimen? Thoughts and experience PLEASE!

Almost all dry mushrooms still have lots of spores within the gills.  Get some out and put them on agar.

Can they just be applied to the agar? OR do I need to re-hydrate in a syringe first?

How old? Try a couple both ways, don't put all your eggs in one basket in a situation like this.

The agar has plenty of moisture in it the dry spores can use to germinate.

All great advice... Thank you all. I think I we try both methods, if for no other reason then experience/education. I imagine I should expect some bacterial growth, but can cut out the healthy mycelium and start on a new tray. Then start looking for my rizomorphic growth?
