Outdoor grow - GT from bacterial spawn
    #20124078 - 06/13/14 11:44 AM (10 years, 7 months ago)

So the spawn jars for the fahsters attempt were bacterial and have been spawned outdoors.

On June 2 I took about 10qt Hpoo mixed with maybe 5qt of a really delicious (for plants at least) looking leaf compost/top soil type and spawned my 7qt oats. The poo was taken to field capacity before mixing with the naturally wet soil mix and everything was mixed together with a hand tiller in a 2'x2'x4" hole in the shade. It's inside a dried up pond (real small) surrounded by trees. Covered with a little layer of leaves and debris.

June 12 - I guess I could take a pic but I'm lazy and it's humid as fuck balls outside...so things I believe I've done wrong and will change on any further outdoor grows.

Didn't line the hole with cardboard, probably should do that to "contain" everything better.

I should not have mixed that leaf compost in there  it doesn't really seem to be colonizing well...if at all. There are bunches of nice clumps of colonized hpoo in there but I just don't see them really all connecting into a big network with that fucking soil in there...don't know what I was thinkin about.

I feel it would be probably fruiting by now or atleast fully colonized had I just used the poo. I also just had a covering of leaves  and stuff over top but today I decided to put a piece of plastic over top weighted down with stones, maybe more co2 will help colo? Well see.

June 13 -

So later in the day and I was just watering and found pins.

Sorry for the long read but I been keeping track in my journal and just wanted to have the background info here.

So my question is should I take the plastic off and let it roll or try to keep it colonizing?

I'm afraid it's not a giant network of mycelium but single patches of colonized horse poo that are fruiting, I guess there's not much I can do to change that now I'm just kinda looking for some feedback or suggestions.

This thing is fucking pinning all over, I was just out there with a flashlight scaring away all the centipedes and other nefarious characters...I just hope they don't all mature as tiny shrooms from separate small mycelium colonies.

Pics on the morrow

Yea I'm so stoked those jars were like of the thinnest mycelium and smelling all sweet and whatnot, they colonized in the ground nice and thick though.

I feel ya man that would suck, I would still try something with all my spent subs if I was you. Just in a tub or flower pot or buckets with a bunch of potting soil or coir or anything to hold moisture.

I keep being surprised by what I find. I've posted a bunch of pics of this big guy lol I can't get enough of it.

i was thinking, if i take my old sgfc flip it upside down ontop of the spent subs outside, maybe that would trap enough humidity in it for something, if i soak it everyday

Probably...anything that'll trap some moisture and still provide fresh air, you'll get a lot with a SGFC outside. I would just dig a hole the same size as your sub and like a few inches deeper then throw in some material then spent sub then cover that with more material and just keep watering it.

I'm just guessing here but I'd feel safe enough trying that, what do you have to loose with spent subs

well i got some shrooms once doing that, happened to rain (sprinkle) like 3 days in a row, and when i found em, they had already started to dry out, i just cant count on it raining here, so i need to make some sorta humidity trap

naw i grew up in the tropics, so i like the heat, but more so the water

yeah i heard they used send guys out here to train before sending them over to the middle east and what not, little cooler than the 110 in iraq, but not much during the summer,

you got move into the mountians, down in guadalajara, mexico,  it would stay in the 70's most of the year, summer or winter, but its high elavation and low latitude

Wyoming, lol no its way warmer during the winter, Its the high deserts of the southwest

I heard of crazy temps in Iraq but never went there myself, like 130

The hottest day I saw in afghan was like 115 or so it was terrible with all my gear and armor on. I could drink ten gallons of water and piss once all day

I'm at my little spot right now taking pics.

I see what you mean man I wonder if flipping a shotgun over them might do anything for it, I would try that if you have mono subs to bury but a few cakes might not even be worth it..or maybe like a plastic tent or something

this is from a contaminated monotub, so it might be worth it, a tent probably would work too, seeing as how its so windy, there is no way it wont get enough fae

Yea I would go for it man I'm loving the big outdoor dudes I'm getting from the tub.

Here's my little patch from the contamed spawn today, I cased yesterday with a little coir/verm cause the mycelium was looking a little dry and I had knots that weren't doing anything, it worked well a lot more pins popped up

It's been in the upper 90s and windy the last two days so I've been watering twice, about a gallon of water total.

Normally since I put the casing on I only need about a half gallon a day. I put my hand over the opening on  a gallon apple juice jug and kinda wiggle my fingers around with the jug upside down and make a little rain I the patch

Surely bro, although that one is it's own grow not a spent sub...my wife took the ipad to class today so I had to take the harvest pics on my little camera and I dunno how to get them on here just yet but goddamn man it was nuts..

I was harvesting for ever and the clusters were so thick it was like holding a bouquet of meaty flowers...so far I got over 1700 grams wet so like 6+ O's and there's still like another ounce dry or so worth of mushrooms to harvest.

I don't have a dehydrator either so that's a challenge right now, the oven using wasn't working out well they started to go all nasty where they touched the pans so now I got em in the oven on a screen with a. Fan and heater fan blowing

Here's the ones that weren't ready yet this morning..

Here's a dense cluster of small ones, I really wish I had a regular computer to put my cameras memory card into for the other pics but these will have to satisfy the need for mushroom porn for now..

Aight so here's the pics from the main harvest yesterday, they look real ghetto cause I had to take a pic of the screen on my camera.

I got so damn lucky on his grow, it far exceeded my expectations from the weak, thin mycelium I started it with

Thanks everyone, this patch rocked my world...I wonder if I'll get a decent second flush.

When people say they usually get about an ounce dry per qt jar does that mean first flush or total? Cuz I got just about exactly 7 o from 7qt spawn

Good to know hopefully it keeps rocking, I'm letting it dry out a little I still give it a little watering each day and I'll start watering heavy in a week or so unless I see pins before.

I have slugs but not too bad, only about ten so far I've seen. I got these little brown flying bugs that like to live up in the gills too, they don't seem to eat much though just hide there

That's a nice haul man. I had some subs I threw out and they actually continued to flush pretty well still. Crazy they've always dried out real bad on me. :asianofapproval:

I think that was it man, about a week after harvest it put out about ten pins, they all matured pretty small too and I think hate as the second and final flush.

I will water it real well for a few days and see what happens but I think due to the low co2 during colonization (I didn't use plastic just a light layer of leaves) I think a lot of the nutes got eaten up at that point but that's just a guess
