Women is a sort of dangerous hobby but has lots of payoffs, if you know what I mean.

I hate cooking but I think I will get a fish tank. What are some good tropical fish species?

You will have to decide that for yourself... pick a species of fish you want to work with and tailor your setup around them
I am new to the hobby so I am not a good person to ask for advice on the specifics, but it's an enjoyable hobby and affordable

I'll probably start out breeding guppies or something to get the basic skills. I would love to eventually breed more difficult fish like Oscars.

I've been breeding tropical fish for about 5 years now.
My advice: pick fish you can actually sell.
You'll need at least 75 gallons for a pair of oscars. since they're impossible to sex unless their breeding tubes are displayed, you'll have to start with at at least a half dozen and hope you get a pair. Oscars are cool, but you'll probably just end up feeding them to their parents. nobody needs 500 one inch oscars.
If you want to get into guppies, find a club. the ones you get from most pet stores will never breed true. and you need a ton of room to get them to develop nice tails.
I do best with African Cichlids. Peacocks mostly. People are actually willing to pay for them.
Again, if you're really interested in breeding fish, find a club.

Any tips for tetra? I don't want to breed to sell, I just enjoy raising fry in my heavily planted tank.

Cooking is a blast and women will love you for it.
Fish tanks are really interesting if you like quiet pets,, Personally I'm fond of saltwater tanks or a freshwater Cichlid tank (e.g. two huge Oscars in a 100gal tank is pretty cool.) Role playing RPGs like D&D or Pathfinder if your into the nerdy stuff like myself.
Obviously Mycology is a must, being that we are on the Shroomery.
Lock picking as a hobby and competitive sport, also know as Locksport! surprisingly pretty fun and a serious challenge.

Start with at least a half dozen females and two or three males. Females are generally larger and fatter. Keep them separate while you condition them
along with the standard flakes feed frozen foods like daphnia, brine shrimp, or bloodworms depending on how big your tetras are.
when they're looking fat and happy, put the males and females together. they'll usually spawn the next morning as the sun comes up.
tetras scatter their eggs all over the place. You'll need a lot of cover on the bottom or they'll all be eaten. Also no algae eaters in the tank- they'll vacuum all the eggs up the first night.
A standard tetra breeding tank is a ten gallon with nothing in it but two inches of glass marbles on the bottom- the eggs drop between the marbles- you pull the adults as soon as all the females are skinny again, or all the fry will be eaten.
You need to have some food ready for as soon as the yolk sacks are gone. Google 'infusoria' or green water. start it at least a month ahead of time. also get a culture of microworms and practice hatching brine shirmp.
Neons and cardinals are some of the more difficult tetras to spawn. they need soft water.
there are a bunch of tricks to get fish to spawn. Raising the temperature a few degrees for a week then doing a water change just before a thunderstorm comes through is my favorite.
I can talk for hours about fish, but I'm wasted and need to get to sleep

Drawing and writing are two hobbies that should not be overlooked. Art is an awesome expression of yourself and its fun. Paintings great too but I have never had much of an affinity for putting color to my art.

My general rule is if I can cook it, I won't eat at the type of restaurant. So, when I go out to eat it is usually Indian or some sort of Asian dish. I can't cook that stuff. I really want to try a good asian recipe for Pork Belly.

That's an interesting way to dictate your restaurant experience, I kind of like that idea. Exotic foods are super intimidating at first but once you have a solid cook book and watch some food network your good to go. I screwed up several dishes before I produced something people would eat.

Ah cool, is there a list of ingredients that like essential for that cuisine, frinstance, Soy Sauce is right?
I said General, because even though I can make pizza, I'll still get it and same with some cuts of meats, like the cut of Pork with the Bone sticking out of it, it looks like a cartoon food. It's Schweinehaxe in German, I think it is pork knuckle in english? I d k. But I rarely go to italian restaurant to order a pasta.
what's your favorite Indian dish to make?

yes there is definitely a list of spices/ingredients that are essential to each cuisine. For example, Indian food is often seasoned with curry leave, cumin, mace, fennel, coriander and bay leaves.
I am much less familiar with Moroccan and other foods than Indian, I have a good friend that was born and raised in New Dehli India and he has taught me a lot about the proper way to cook the traditional food of India. Its just really exciting food with a lot of heart, lots of color and most of all lots of flavor.
Spinach and lamb saag is my favorite Indian dish to eat and to make. Saag is essentially a leaf based dish eaten with traditional Indian bread called naan.
