    #2011603 - 10/15/03 04:48 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Hi i'm a newb, I found these in a park forest on the side of a fallen tree near a small stream. The gills are whitish pink and it bruises light brown, the top of the mushroom is White very lite tan with a little pink tone to it. There are ripples at the out edge of the head extending in rows and there is not a stem. I live in North Texas.

i have no experience with the wood-loving fungi and someday when i have time ill tune them in and stuff but they arent as cool as fleshy fungi for me.. :smirk:

anyway it looks like from the family polyporaceae. otherwise give us some desriptions and look at the "Aphyllophorales" or polyporaceae.

Try cutting one in half. What is the texture (fleshy, leathery, woody?)?

What is the texture of the tubes on the underside (fleshy, waxy, leathery, woody?)?

Can you peel the tubes from the underside of the cap (it should be very easy or nearly impossible)?

Your mushroom is a Polypore of some sort. None of them are active, most of them are inedible because of texture, a few are edible, a few are poisonous.

Happy mushrooming!
