Problem with Bulk Straw

My Dog took two large rubbermaid containers and pasterized his straw..etc....then used rye grain to spawn the straw in the rubbermaid. Each Tub weighs around 15-20 lbs and has had explosive growth. My dog did not compact the straw or use weights like he should have to press the straw down, the mycelium is running wild through the straw but seems to be making large balls of white and not a unified block of straw and mycelium. My dog knows the reason for this is not compacting and wants to know if they will still perform well once cased in a week or two? The straw was cut into 2-3 inch pieces by the way..

Should be fine if it was cut that tiny, as long as it doesn't dry out and stall. You could always press it down a bit when you case it afterward.
If the growth is really uneven it's probably either due to drying or not mixing it enough.

Actually, the growth has been explosive and seemingly even, My dog just was curious about the thousands or large white puffballs. He assumes they will eventually all join like normal but was curious anyway. He thinks they will be ready to case sunday or so. The straw seems to have retain a ton of moisture even after ringing it out and leting drain for hours. Wish him luck!! He's good about pictures

Yeah -- if you have really even growth on straw you should get like 3 or 4 germination points on each blade, and everything should just connect. Might be not compacting it, too. Just don't leave any uncolonized straw when you case -- get rid off all the uncolonized stuff. I'd wait, of course, 'till it's done growing.
Good luck!
