    #2010952 - 10/15/03 10:12 AM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Ok I want to know if its ok if my friend can make his jars up today and innoculate in a few days. Hes gonna do PF-Tek.

1. Microwave Vermiculite then Mircowave Brown Rice Flour
2. Mix Vermiculite and BRF
3. Put holes in jar lids
4. Place Verm/BRF in jars and boil for an hour
5. Let cool, place tape over holes
6. Wrap in tin-foil
7. Wait 3-5 days for Syringe
8. innoculate

All this sound ok?

Microwave dry brf? That is going to smell real bad (not to mention a bit if a fire risk ;p), and its going to be a bugger to scrape the smoldering cack off the microwave. I would follow the tek.

baking the verm and brf is a much better way...what is it now, bake @350 for like 30mins before making mixture, then place in jars.

I havent baked verm or brf before steam sterilizing it, I just always mixed it up and steamed it. How much does baking it actually help with contamination opposition?

I mixed up 12 1/2 pint jars, and pressure cooked them @ 15psi for 45 minutes, after cooling overnite, i removed them and put each jar into its own ziploc bag, sucked out the air from the bag before i sealed it. and they sat for 2 weeks until i used them and they are doing just fine.

fractional sterilization will help if you want to take extra steps to prevent contamination.

Yea he was gonna steam them again before innoculation. This is gonna be his first grow and he wanted it to be a productive one and also a learning experience.

I tried that a while ago, came back to some rank smelling jars filled with grey matter. Ewwwww. Be careful, take a lot of steps to prevent contams if you do this. Hmm, now that I'm thinking about it, I didn't sterilize them before I put them away, so you should be fine.

Well he kinda was in a hurry when mixing the ingredients and stuff, so the sterilization wasnt at 100%. Kinda just washed hands and sprayed some lysol around on the stuff. Then mixed together enough ingredients for 3 jars. And just kept doing it in 3-jar increments. Then boiled for an hour with a pot and a lid. Covered the jar lids with tape and put them away. Then either tomorrow or the next day, they are going to get another steaming, then they will get nocked up.... if his money ever gets to Ralph.
