Someone left a loaded gun in the toy aisle at Target
    #20099344 - 06/08/14 07:11 AM (9 years, 9 months ago)

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/05/target-guns_n_5453164.html?ir=Business

"A Target employee found a loaded handgun in the toy aisle of a South Carolina store last week, just days before activists began petitioning the retailer to ban firearms from its stores.

The gun, loaded with live ammunition, was found sitting atop a superhero Playskool toy box at a Myrtle Beach store last Friday, WMBF News reported Thursday morning.

"We take these matters very seriously and we are partnering with local law enforcement on this incident," Molly Snyder, a Target spokeswoman, said in a statement to The Huffington Post. "Because this matter is under investigation, we are unable to share additional information."

On Wednesday, the gun-control group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America kicked off a national campaign calling on Target to prohibit the open carry of guns in its stores.

The petition has dragged Target into a bitter fight between Moms Demand Action and a collection of open carry advocates in Texas, who were photographed toting assault rifles through a Dallas-area Target in March.

Videos and photos of affiliated open carry groups hauling their firearms into Chipotle, Chili's and Sonic prompted the restaurant chains to announce no-gun policies last month. Under intense criticism, C.J. Grisham, president of the group Open Carry Texas, has since backed down, asking members of his group to stop bringing their rifles into businesses.

"Assault rifles and guns don't belong in the baby aisle, they don't belong in the toy aisle -- and they don't belong in any aisle of stores that American moms frequent like Target," Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action, said in a statement on Thursday. "It's time for Target, a store that American moms flock to, to follow the lead of Chipotle and Starbucks and prohibit the open carry of firearms.”

For his part, Grisham, in a statement to HuffPost, suggested that "despicable" gun-control activists planted the gun.

"Target is currently in the crosshairs of gun control extremists who will stoop to [no] level too low to effectuate their agenda," he wrote in an email. "Our children are our most precious commodity and intentionally putting them in any kind of danger to exploit a personal agenda is deranged, sick and twisted.""

Funny how these open carry activists seem to be doing more harm than good for the cause they are attempting to represent.  :dawerp:

that doesnt sound that far fetched, who goes toy shopping, pulls their gun
out and just lays it down and walks away. when you look at most of the mass
shootings in the last 10 years or so the majority have been liberals, jared
laughner was one that was very prominent, he didnt like gabby giffords pro
gun stance so he got a gun and shot several people including her

actually it's the media. they've got the public worked up into a frenzy
where when someone in the public sees a gun and there isnt a badge attached
they now believe it's on the hip of the next mass shooter so they run
whining to the management of an establishment and that manager as opposed to
the potential loss of many customers would rather lose the one

Who has the most to gain from this?  I think it could be either side, but you'd have to be a complete idiot to think putting a loaded gun on top of a toy would help any pro-gun rights cause.

Since the columbine killings its be win after win for gun owners. Even sandy hook boosted gun sales and only saw restrictions in ct. The reality is that gun rights activists have had it good despite their gripes. And despite the crying parents trying to ban guns our rights remain intact and mass shootings and potential gun legislation only strengthen s gun sales

well let's add things up, some anti-gun group planned a protest to ban
guns from target stores, to have the protest without risk of arrest you
need to apply for a permit, the permit sets a specific date, let's say the
date was 6/10/14 and by some miraculous act of god a loaded gun magically
appears in the toy aisle of the very same store you plan to picket

now we have a guy with a gun, he decides to go out toy shopping, he's
checking out the barbie dream house and sees the my little pony that he
just has to have so he does what every other red blooded, patriotic
american would do, he pulls out his loaded gun, say's a little prayer to
ask for forgiveness from jesus for all his sins, lays the gun down as an
offering to the prophet elisha who is known for asking god to send a she
bear down from the mountain to murder some children, he's the patron saint
of child killers.

so who has the most to gain, it's clear, Doctors Without Borders, it's
very clear that they're behind this tomfoolery. or maybe it's Hasbro since
stories like this are guaranteed to increase toy sales

if restrictions are placed such as limiting magazine capacities, limiting
where a gun owner can carry, how exactly is that a win for the gun owner,
how is that having it good? sure, boosts in sales of guns certainly is a win
for the stores and the manufacturers but it doesnt help me

maybe you can explain how it does, I dont even have a my little pony
so I'm receiving no benefits at all here

Alright, let's stop with the pro-gun anti-gun bullshit.

The guy that did it (because it's a guy for sure) is psycho. You can't explain psycho even if he writes a manifesto.

*the anti-gun liberal

and yes, he's clearly psycho and he did this along with all the other
psycho liberal as a means of effecting political change, this means that
liberals are terrorists and the democratic party needs to be declared a
terrorist organization and the US needs to wipe them out and a charity
organization such as bronies for ponies needs to take their place

in all seriousness, the tapes need to be reviewed and the face of the
perpetrator plastered all over the national news, once he/she is
apprehended they need to be ass raped by the courts with the maximum
allowable sentence

Aren't guns supposed to be registered to people and shouldn't the stores have more then enough cameras to see who did this or at least get their plates?

Magazine restriction was a loss for ct for sure but if u look at the uto weapon ban being lifted..private gun sale laws and recent carry anywhere laws in Ga, its been an overall win in favor of gun owners. Considering the efforts of our opposition im proud of our lawmakers on not giving into feelings on this issue. If only they were so adament on defending our right to use.

there is no auto weapons ban, there's the NFA law that restricts autos to
people that buy the tax stamp and none can be produced for civilians since
1986, so that market has become very limited and driven the prices of
these weapons to new highs. the 'assault weapon' ban had a sunset
provision that was never renewed because in the time that the ban was in
place there was no data that showed that these weapons contributed to crime

I think it is far fetched.  Whoever owns the gun might go to jail.  Even if the gun is not registered, they'll probably pull the surveillance video.  I doubt anyone would get themselves in this much trouble, and possibly kill a kid, just to make a point.
