Is this a peruvian torch?
    #20095963 - 06/07/14 11:28 AM (9 years, 9 months ago)

(Sorry about the huge pictures!)

This cactus was sold to me as T. Peruvianus (or something like that). Is this a peruvian torch?

It has some white spots on it, could that be from me spraying it with water? And speaking of water, how often should I water it? I spray it with normal tap water sometimes but I water it with distilled water about once a week (it the soil is completely dry).

Thank you

Possibly is a T. peruvianus, they are harder to ID when younger.

The white spots will be from spraying, salts from your water source. There is no need to spray them

For watering, give a good soak when the soil is dry. Allow it to dry out between waterings. The frequency will depend on your soil mix, pot type, climate, how much of your soil contains roots.

Thank you very much  I have it standing in an eastern window right now, we only have windows to the east and west. Do you think that is a good location? The temperature is at around 22-27* Celsius (~70-80 F).

The temps are good. Trichs are rather hardy. They are often first out the gate for me in spring whilst night time temps are still rather chilly, and they keep growing longer than others into autumn.
They do like lots of light, so go with whichever will give the most hours a day.

Thank you  One last question, I am leaving for a few weeks soon. Should I keep them in a window or put them where they wont get directly hit by the sun? (I have two peyote as well, same question there  )

Leave them receiving light so as to avoid etiolation.

I think you can call it as peruvian torch cactus. Not so far away from it tho.

There are some cuzcoensis and peruvianus sold under name of Peruvian Torch, some p. torch resemble cuzcos and some cuzcos looks they're peruvianus.

I am not sure what is the actual definition of t. peruvianus but cactus in your pictures do seems it's peruvian torch, grow if few years and see..

I have one peruvian torch not much of a big spines but it's pretty green, instead of other peruvian torches are rather bluish.

Nice seedling it is.
