Hi there, just wondering if anybody in hawkes bay has had any luck this season? I know we havent had much rain but conditions still seem to be pretty good considering. But ive had absolutely no luck, maybe somebody has beat me to it as I can see what looks like possible signs of foraging to almost digging... surely theres some out there to be found by now. Or am I looking for the wrong type in this area as im from nelson and have only been looking for goldies.
Any help or advise would be much appreciated.  Cheers guys

Please read the rules:
Quote:

4. Do not ask about current finds in your area.
These posts have been flooding the forum for years. If you're curious about if mushrooms are growing in your area, get out there and look! Mushrooms don't read the books. Sometimes they fruit outside of season. There is no set date for any season, only vast generalizations. Your best bet is that if it's close to the season for the mushroom you are looking for and its been raining, you just might find some.

5. Do not make threads or posts discussing or reporting the weather.
This includes complaining about the weather, asking if the current weather is "good for shrooms", or how long to wait after rain fall to go hunting.  If it has rained within the last 1-10 days, and the temperatures are correct for the type of mushroom you're looking for, and the time of year is correct then it is certain that that the mushroom you are looking for is growing.

I find the best way is to dry them out in front of a dehumidifyer for 2 days or a dehydrator for about 6 hours.

Congrats !

Hey guys. Got lost today and ended up finding about 30 or so subs. I'm aware that the council sprays some of the bark chip gardens, and I'm just wondering if there is any way to tell if my shrooms were sprayed at all? Cheers

My guess is that the fact that you have found mushrooms means that the wood chips wasn't sprayed.

Isn't the purpose of the spray to stop mushrooms from growing?

Definitely to stop any future growth, but I'd have thought that the council would go around looking for bark gardens containing mushrooms first so that they wouldn't waste time randomly spraying every bark garden.

But yeah,I'm sure the fact I found mushrooms means that they weren't sprayed. Probably just my paranoia/ocd kicking in...

Thanks for the reminder, not implying that somebody tells me where to look just asking for help or advise on wether im looking for the right kind. I did manage to find one lonely sub battling the odds growing in a bark garden at my work as I had my head down taking my motorbike gloves off I spotted the little bugger haha. Also found what kinda looks like a small family of liberty caps but im not really sure if thats what they are... all I can see is that they had a blues pillow of mycelium at the bottom of the staipe and around the edge of the cap. Any help would be great cheers

It's highly doubtful that the council sprays fungicides to kill mushrooms, they are only spraying herbicides, if they are doing their jobs properly they should be using a marker dye so you will be able to see where they have sprayed!

the problem is sometimes they are using blue or green dyes, i have seen a photo of an inactive mushroom that had a blue tinge stained on it after being sprayed. I can see some newbie coming along and thinking its good cus its "turned blue" and getting horribly sick or potentially dieing.

A good way to tell if the area has been sprayed is to check if there is any dead weeds around the area, and around the fungi.
Remember glyphosate is extremely carcinogenic in trace amounts proven in recent studies, and persists in water for a very long time, so no council should be spraying the shit to start with as we all end up drinking it in the end in our water.

Wow, I've never heard / seen of P. alutacea. Thanks a lot for sharing Sum0! Looks like they don't really bruise too strong a blue from the picture, which is interesting

Freezing tea works like a charm. Might be the best way to store less than fresh mushrooms. It lasts for years.
