nice LK!!

does the new species have any type of odor...like weilii. the reason i ask is i'm almost positive that picked one of these last year but i figure it was a weilii cause it had that unique weilii smell and bruised a mean blue. but the stem was slim/slender, long and not meaty like weilii. it was also much smaller than your typical weilii. i found it in a place that i have yet to see one weilii and it was just a solitare mushroom. i always check out this spot on the way to my other patches but i have yet to see another one.

hope all is well....and congrads on the new home!!

Yeah, the stems do have a smell very similar to Ps. weilii. Not eaxctly the same though, weilii still has that extra funk that is very distinctive, this new species doesn't quite pack the same punch. The taste of these new species eaten fresh is extremely bitter, its like eating a fresh weilii times 10, and from such a small mushroom its really amazing. That one mushroom that fits on my thumbnail in the above pic was enough to make my entire mouth taste strongly of fresh Psilocybe.

Awesome Mr. mush!! Don't quit yer job are anything to look at all these folks mushrooms including my own! Sounds like you've been pretty dern busy lately.

Go ahead and just post results here at the forum when your ready. Did you by chance look at any weilii I sent? I would like to see them compared if possible. Take your time and relax man  No need to put a ban on yourself, I'd rather see you here helping and enjoying your company than have you locked in your house with your eye glued to a microscope

I appreciate your help Mr. mushrooms!

excellent quality documentation! thats what is so great about psilocybe hunting right there. you get so dailed into the traits to look for in all psilocybes that when you see something noone has ever seen before you can still recognize it. the world over its pretty much all the same. those have features it seems shared with several different psilocybe species. Some of those photos make it look like psil. atlantis but you said no sclerotia formation in culture? and yet others look totally different. how cool. keep up the good work.

A friend found some of this new species, but it was beginning to rot. I'll try some out as soon as I find some fresh ones.
They dont smell anythingt like Weilii to me. I havent tasted one yet, but it is suprising it would taste worse than the Weilii.
Nice Finds

How and where did your friend find some of these??? That would be the second ever report of this species being found. I highly doubt you have found this species. If so, I need to know how and roughly where, because I shared this patch with only two people, and now it seems there are a few more than just those 2 folks showing up at this patch.

The patch JSRP was talking about is like 3-4 miles from my house and 1-2 from his... I doubt it is your patch LK. I was just driving around the particular Dominos delivery area of the store I work at when I spotted them. There were several types of mushrooms out there, mostly just inactives though and all of them looked old and rotten. I am going to keep an eye out for more since we got some rain. I will post whatever I find. Maybe JSRP will let me use his camera this time so the pictures will be clear.  :mushroom2:
