SprewellSleeve said: I think they're talented, I know their influence, etc., but I'm surprised almost every person who's into rock likes them and talks about how amazing they are. Yes, they're exceptional musicians, but the music itself doesn't do it for me. I know Jimi Hendrix gets talked about, but he doesn't seem to get talked about as THE musician of that era of rock, which he is to me (not being biased either since The Doors are my favorite rock band from then)
I dunno, seems kind of trendy to give them such praise (not by everybody, and not even by most I think, but yeah).
I haven't read any of the posts in this thread...
but its good to see the deserved appreciation for the Doors and Hendrix. Led Zeppelin is super great just quite on the same level as those two. Don't get me wrong, performance-wise they really go at it and are awesome, but there is something subtle that makes The Doors and Hendrix more magical
in my opinion
but, this is still not to overlook the epic badassness of Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin is not on as high a level as the Doors? Ok buddy

Mush 4 Brains said: "Houses of the Holy." It was the first Led Zeppelin album to not officially be titled after the band. It was also the first of the band's albums to be composed of completely original material. It represents a musical turning point for Led Zeppelin, as they began to use more layering and production techniques in recording their songs. The album provided notable additions to the band's catalogue of songs, and it has sold over 11 million copies in the United States. In 2003, Houses of the Holywas ranked number 149 on Rolling Stonemagazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time
I agree, Houses of the Holy is one of my favorites, and definitely a turning point for them
This and Physical Graffiti are my favorites.

led zeppelin was essentially a super group, they just happened to form with eachother first before they got really popular (even tho page was in the yardbirds before zeppelin)

Zeppelin is my all time favorite band & Jimmy Page is the main reason I ever started playing guitar.
