Mushrooms in Oregon
    #2008638 - 10/14/03 05:07 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

Hello everyone! Bet none of ya remember me. I think I last posted in, uhhhhhh, July.

Anyways, I'm making a roadtrip up to Oregon in the next couple of days, and I was wondering if anyone knew how the fall mushroom season is shaping up around there. Anything growing yet? Any particular place in Oregon a good spot to hunt? I got tons of gas and days to burn, so don't worry about naming an out-of-the-way place.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Agree, no azures yet. Checked areas on the north OR coast and found only 3 PS. shroomies - Stunzii I think. They did not exactly match any description I could find, but bruized blue and had a purple/black print. Really not sure what they are...

Since this forum is about mushroom hunting it doesn't necessarily mean active types. On the off chance you're talking about edibles the chantrelles, King Boletes, Zellers boletes and too many others to name are fruiting or starting to fruit in the coastal woods. I find that chantrelles seem to like it further up off the ocean than some others. The kings I find almost ON the beach, and the salt air seems to discourage maggots at least a little (and every little bit helps).
