I innoc'd two non pc'd brf jars to see what would happen. This is the growth I have after a week:

I'm 99% sure this is some kind of mold. It's whispy. Grew super fast. My other clean jars have no signs of anything yet. So, I think that's a good sign.

Looks like it.

Or one of the reasons there's no signs is because of the foil on the top. Foil is useless after pc and is only hurting GE.
EDIT: seeing as you didnt even pc, why do you even have foil? lol

Because I was planning on PC ing them and just didn't. Is it true that foil does nothing? It keeps things from landing on the top, things that could contaminate. I don't think its useless

foil is getting your dry verm barrier moist that's why it's a bad thing. you use it to avoid water dripping from the pot lid and into your jars.

You use foil during PC to keep the humidity of the pc out of your jars so your medium doesn't get over saturated. Use the search function, foil on jars is bad because you're just smothering the cakes.

No, it's just choking it out. If it didn't get wet in the PC it won't be wet now.
The filter (dry verm or whatever filter you used) keeps contams out, not the foil.

Exactly what is full proof? It sounds like something a wedding photographer would send to the bride and groom.
The foil should be removed as soon as jars come out of the sterilizer. This is to prevent the dry verm filter from becoming damp, which will allow contaminants to colonize through it to reach the rice flour supplemented verm below. RR http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16434915#16434915 I've personally posted at least a thousand times to remove the foil as soon as you remove the jars from the sterilizer. Your problem isn't CO2, but probably bacteria contamination from leaving the foil on, which keeps your 'dry' verm filter damp. This allows bacteria in the air to colonize right through the verm to the brf below. RR http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14678958#14678958

If the imperfection of a tub lid is enough for GE I can't see how foil placed around a jar would choke the GE the air coming out of the jar will find it's way out of the loose foil, so somehow I suspect I must have misunderstood what 36 meant or he's talking about something else?
