I came across this bag of cured mushrooms and was hoping someone could make a positive ID on them, if only because I prefer living to dying. They are most likely from somewhere in Canada, more than likely one of the western provinces.
Here is a picture of the whole batch, the lighter is there for size comparisson.
More pictures available on request.

these where collected in the wild or bought?
they don't look like P. cubensis. they appear to be possible shiitake [Lentinus edodes], a common cultivated edible species. to be safe though, i would not eat them, as it is not liekly to get a definate ID from a bag of dried mushrooms. what do they smell like?

These were grabbed from a pillowcase in a backpack I tore off a mugger as he was running away with my money. They definitely dont look like anything I have bought before, but I have smelled dried shiitake mushrooms before, these smell... saltier? Definitely more pungent

that's an interesting way of comming across mushrooms. heh. it is not likely that you will know what they are for sure but i still believe they may be shiitake. they are not cubenisi s all i can tell you for sure. just don't eat them to be safe.

Those are dried Shitake mushrooms, edible and apparenlty someone may have intended to burn someone on them. mj edibles from the chinese market or grocery store in your neighborhood. I actually had someone once try to sell me some of those sprinkled with blue food coloring as a blue stain. Very obvious to me what they were and when i accused the dealer of ripping people off he claimed he ate them and got high and they came from a good friend who brought them up from mexico,. What a crock of shit to do to someone. mj

yes, the dried edibles and foodcoloring is a terrible burn, but it beats the randomly picked mushrooms and food coloring by quite a long shot.
