What is the best casing method?
    #2006679 - 10/13/03 11:28 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

I have 4 rye mycobags inoculated with B+ and one of them will be ready to case tomorrow. I've never fruited shrooms before so I want to figure out what would be the best method to case a single mycobag.

I want to get the highest yield possible. I know it's not going to be as much as say dung/straw but I want to get the most out of this grow before I move on to bulk.

Also, what is a good design for a terrarium? I want something simple to make and I just can't decide on what faq to use.

Thanks for all the help in advance!

Why not just leave them in the mycobags and let them fruit like that?... You will be eliminating a possible chance of contams by messing with them especially if you dont plan to spawn them to dung/straw..

These aren't the envirobags. I dunno if I can fruit them from the bags.

get some straw mix it all up and follow shroomgods straw tek for big yields. You can spawn in a tubberware fit for however much spawn you want. Big yield, not much work.

mycobags can be fruited in the bag itself. my friend has never done that though. instead, he says that they work really well as a single cake. he just cut open the bag (after complete colonization), and set it in a terrarium, without any casing. his single mycobag cake produced 28g dry from seven or eighth flushes. from what i can tell, that seems to be pretty decent (?)
good luck

I was looking at the rez-effect and it looks like that guy got some wonderful flushes. I am really considering it.

But.... the straw tek looks good as well. I might give that a go

Checking it out now.

Well, it looks like we don't have all the materials for a straw tek yet so we'll probably do that before some festivels later on next year.

All we need now is an oz or 3 to sample.

So, the question is, should I use the rez-effect casing or should I just grow it from the cake?

Do the 60/40 rez effect, it offers alot more surface area for fruiting shrooms, so the yeild will be a whole lot more than just growing them off the cake.

Alright, I was leaning towards the 60/40 coir/verm. Now I just gotta find the coco coir. Do large pet supply retailers carry it like Petsmart or maybe even Walmart?

I don't want to have to order it online as I woud really like to make this casing tomorrow night.

Find some peat moss, its just as good as coco coir and even easier to prepare.

I've seen that bed-a-beast stuff before. Actually it was when I was returning a fish tank heater that I had bought for my incubator. I'm gonna head on out there tomorrow and check it out.

Thanks for all the help guys!
