early birthing
    #2006222 - 10/13/03 09:00 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I posted a few days ago about my first batch having seemingly stopped growing once it hit the bottom.

Well I'm concerned about one of the jars cause I think it's VERY dry. the cake seems to have shrunk and there isn't any growth.

What are my possible options? Should I birth the cake, dunk and then just stick it in a grow chamber? I'm also thinking about trying a casing.

I look to the wisdom of the forums :notworthy: :eyemouth:

You could try flipping the jars and see if they finish up. I'd try this first.

If you birth them with uncolonized areas, you will have to remove the uncolonized parts with a sanitized knife or something and then birth or crunble and case as normal.

Good luck,
Ben

Yeah. Flip the jars and give em a good whack on your hand so the cake separates from the bottom of the jar and gives the myc. some room to breathe. They seem to always slow down around the bottom and flipping lets the CO2 drain out and gets the growth going again. Birthing jars before they are colonized just ain't smart.
