I feel gutted if they are active cos I chucked a bunch of them out cos my friends picked them thinkin they were libs...the shape and reddy colour makes me think they were the same.

The ones we found also had a very bizarre black liquid which stained your hands on them, did you notice that?

You haven't done the spore print and description bit yet. That's a nice photo, but we need more than that to ID those.

Yeah.. no spore print because I left the mushrooms on the field. Maybe I will pic some of those up next time I see them and do a better description. :smile:

Unless it's a very distinctive species, you need to pick any mushroom(s) you want to identify. Try to get specimens of all ages (from young to old) - sometimes we need to see all of them for an ID.

You're not hurting the fungus by picking them. It doesn't hurt them any more than picking the apples from a tree hurts the tree. If you somehow managed to pick every apple on every tree long enough, they wouldn't reproduce and would die out, but it would take awhile. You're not going to get every mushroom in a field, and you're not going to do it multiple years.
