I doubt it as well, Martin is the man on the drums. I saw them play deliverance and a few other songs from the album live on the last tour and all the drum bits were flawless. It's crazy how fucking good they sound live, with the kind of shit they play, I'd probly be getting lost all the time playing 10 minute songs like theirs heh. Opeth=key DH

Take a listen to Dimmu's drummer.... god damn! Machine gun blasts!
... and my drummer used to think that Lars was using a drum machine in Ride the Lighting.. it was before his days of discovering what double bass meant. The irony in it all is that he weighs over 350 lbs, and is about the same size as Dimmu's drummer.. with practice, he could also pull it off, but we would only need it that fast only occasionaly, my philosophy is different dynamics and different things going on, not all just one thing continously... Peace.

I've seen the video for "Windompane" and it's just them recording the song. There was no drum machine

Well, Windowpane is off of Still Life (it is actually in my cd player at this moment, hehe), but I am pretty sure they don't use a drum machine for anything.. I've heard faster before.
By the way, Windowpane is one of the songs I am currently working on, pushing my technique on the bass back to where it used to be (I went two months without playing, unfortunately, due to certain problems.....). It is a great song for bass, because it isn't all that hard and the bassline has perfect taste.. and that little hook.. hehehe. Great stuff! Peace.

Well, if it is entitled Windompane, it very well could be on Damnation (don't have that one myself), but Windowpane is on Still Life.
Then again, I just checked the cd case to make sure, and it is not there, which is really fucking strange.... seeings as how I have Windowpane on Guitar Pro and it like really sounded like a song on Still Life, so I just assumed... hm.. I need to do some investigating, I guess.
Peace.

It comes down to a matter of taste. They are pretty much still Dimmu, but they are so much more expansive and more produced... very fucking heavy. There are more synths, more melody, more heavyness... they have really come along, basically.
But, like I said, it comes down to tastes. If you are a hardcore black metal fan, and only get into constant pounding and noise, than you might not like them as much, but they are really like the total package, the true embodiment of all that metal is and should be... Peace.

No, Opeth has never used a drum machine for any of their albums. They might have used triggers on some songs, but never a drum machine.

Triggers.... what would those be? I have a few notions on what it might be, but I have never actually heard of that before.. Peace.

Are the first lyrics of the song "Black Face in the Windowpane"? If not, give me some lyrics from the song and maybe I can help.

Triggers are basically using electronic sensors on an acoustic set.. when the drum is hit, it activates the trigger and is processed like an electric set..where you can change the sound and such. For example a bass drum trigger could be used to create inhumanely fast double bass rhythms (ala Hellhammer) But I don't think Opeth uses them.

Hhm.. never heard of such, but that is basically what I figured they would be.. Never heard Hellhammer, either. If fucking Soul Seek was a little more reliable, I would check them out right now..
Hhm... it also makes me start thinking about Dimmu.. I am pretty sure that Nicholas is all authentic, though, since he has been fucking fast as hell ever since his IN FLAMES days (I do believe it was him that played on like the song Bioshpere and such, which has crazy double bass as well, although not anywhere near as crazy as Dimmu). The guy is a fucking monster.. the machinegun, continous blasts are really fucking sweet live.. Peace.

And, by the way, I don't know what the hell was wrong with me, I just listened through Still Life and nothing sounded even close...
I really don't understand it. I guess because I downloaded a lot of guitar pro files, opened that one up, and it sounded so familiar, and there was something about the bass line that made me think of Still Life.. I guess I am just delusional.... Peace.

Nicholas of Dimmu Borgir uses drum triggers. That's where he get's that processed, insane sound. Still, he is a machine.
Hellhammer is a drummer and was in the following bands: Hellhammer, Arcuturs, Immortal, Kovenant, Thorns, Fleuerety, Troll, Winds.

So, the truth comes out..
Well, I guess it definitely makes sense, I just don't know I will begin to break the news to my keyboardist, it will come as such a tragic shock to him... I must be strong, I guess.
So, is Hellhammer still with Immortal? They put on a pretty good show for being a three piece and all (and not in a Rush sort of way, heh) Peace.

Opeth don't use a drum machine, my friends seen em live too and he says its all genuine. Morbid Angel on the other hand do use a drum machine which is a shame and also strange because their drumming was better BEFORE they started using a drum machine.
