Casing Humidity Question...
    #2003889 - 10/13/03 12:38 AM (13 years, 5 months ago)

I have read through the FAQ's and such, and just out of curiosity, could someone use less perlite in a terrarium (a 1/2 inch instead of an inch), thus reducing the humidity, or would this not work? I just figured the amount of space to be humidified would be too much for a small amount of perlite. I am just curious on alternative methods of lowering humidity b/c I understand that primordia formation needs very high humidity but the mushrooms themselves do not. Would 95-100% humidity really cause that much of a problem or can they grow in those types of conditions without having to worry?

Fanning more often also helps, but yes, I would imagine that the less perlite that is present, the less rH that it will generate. For pinning it should be at 100%rH, but after that you should reduce it to around 85%.

In the end, my friend, we will all be together again.

You should just fan more often or get a Kaz cool mist with a good hygrometer. If you use less perlite I suspect that you will get significantly less humidity OR you will get very little reduction. Either way, it doesn't achieve the goal.
