First Hunt. ID and maybe lesson???
    #2002211 - 10/12/03 11:56 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

Alright, the first two are the same shrooms, and the second two are the same shrooms. Both were found in the woods growing on trees that had fallen. I have a few more pics and a couple of other shrooms that I would like to post. The second one has a waxy top. They were found in the upstate of SC after about 5 days of off and on rain. I have yet to see any bruising on any of these as they have JUST been picked. I'm working on a spore print now, but I just got outta the woods and wanted to get started. Thanks for any help and I'll be reading more.

Good pictures, good enought to identify these mushrooms. Please read the 3 posts at the top of this forum it will help when identifying mushrooms when they are not so easy to name.

The first mushroom is some species of Xerula. Probably X. radica. If it has a smell like carrots or geraniums it is X. megalaspora. If it had a moist cap it may be another species I that i cant find the name for. Xerula all have long rooting stems.

The second mushroom is Pluteus cervinus

I agree with falcon's IDs.

To verify the Pluteus, get a spore print. Instead of the white you probably expect, it should come out pinkish.

Happy mushrooming!
