Blue Mycelium?
    #2001475 - 10/12/03 01:29 AM (14 years, 8 months ago)

I have a few BRF jars that are going on 2 months old they are almost 100% colonized but I see today there is Blue shit in there, in most of the jars. Has any1 seen this b4?

P.S its only on the B+ and these at 1-pint jars

Why did it take two months for them to colonize? Are they at the right temperature? And how much inoculate did you use per jar?

I have no idea about the blue mycelium though...

two months? get your temps up, brf should be nearing full colonization in about two weeks. as for the blueing, my guess is bruising but im surprised contams havent set in the uncolonized areas. i'd birth the jars and cut out any parts that are uncolonized.

I've had full pint jars take two months to get more than half colonized before, possibly due to low water content? This would also account for blue bruising. Pint jars just don't work as well as 1/2 pints.
I say birth whatever you have and remove any verm/brf that hasn't been colonized, then give the remaining cake a 24 hour dunk.

I keep all my jars at room temp.and 1/2 pints take 3 to 4 weeks to col.100%.Pints take 6 to 8 weeks.I have done this with many different strains,B+,maz.,Eq.,Amazon,and Gt.The only thing I notice is it takes a little longer to collonize. But I don't have to spend time and money on heaters and incubation chambers. So I think the extra time is worth it cause once you get a cicle of jars going you always have cakes flushing.I find I need the extra time to let the cakes in the grow chamber finish flushing. And if you use h2o2 in your water the contams are minimal to none.Just my opinion.
