i cased two cakes last weekend, and it was about 2 or 3 days i guess before i put them in a terrarium with perlite. so they've been sitting there since and i've been fanning a few times a day, but no pins. do i need to wait longer? should i cold shock?

just wait...expect pins any time after a week in the tarrarium...you'll see hyphal knots first and pins a day or two after that.

so once you case your cakes you don't put them in the perlite/water fruiting chamber? i thought they went right in after you case them. you are saying that you need to cover casings w/ plastic wrap for 1 week before they are exposed to the humidity of the fruiting chamber?

or do you put the fresh casing w/ the plastic wrap inside the fruiting chamber because the chamber has the temperature regulation?

So hold on.... It's this weekend now, you did it last weekend and it was two or three days before they went into the terrarium? So the casings have been out for like four days? For sure you need to wait longer, it's going to be a week plus depending on conditions before you see a pin form. Obviously you are growing legal mushrooms which do not require much of a temperature drop so I would not cold shock, I also hear this is the case for cubes, which fruit easily and have nothing to do with you. Good luck.
