    #2001228 - 10/11/03 11:01 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

Skip  has these right now.. He is wondering to pick em right now or go to bed and get them 7 hours later in the MORNING....  He is thinking would they be too open by then.....

If that is his biggest problem isn't he the the lucky guy!

I'm pretty sure that peak alkaloid content by weight of maturing mushrooms (aborts don't count) is before the veil breaks. I can't provide a cite for this however. But factoring in that once the mushrooms reach the maturity where their caps become convex they have increased in weight enough to make the issue of potency void. I guess it all really depends on for what reasons you're growing them (i.e. personal or economical).

woah - nice crop  it's now 6 hours later - you awake yet? i hope you waited as well, and i bet those look fit for a king now. remember, nobody said you have to pick them all at once - i never do, i treat each fruit as an individual.

your problems i should have. :kiss:sk

Well, I see about 18 happy little tikes. If I were you, I would pick 9, eat 3, dry 3, & put 3 in my neighbors pasture(maybe it's too late in the year?) The other 9 could then have room to grow, and room for more to pop up.

I'm still a novice, but nearing that time, and hope to have what you have pictured!! Looks like a good time for all. Whatever you decided to do, I'm sure it worked out fine!

I'd be interested to hear your results.  I'm pretty sure that it's true...it makes sense to me in that the fruitbody would most likely be spending more resources on reproduction (genesis of spores), rather than alkaloid production by the time the veil breaks.  This is noted with many entheogenic species relating to amount of effort the plant puts into alkaloid production/reproduction.  But I could most definitely be wrong, perhaps all the spores are already produced by the time the veil breaks.  Perhaps there is another reason for them being more potent.  Perhaps they aren't really more potent.  Who knows.  Perhaps your experiment will shed more light on this puzzle.  Good luck.

And no, we never sleep.

Do yu have a link where Skip cold review some of these species?
Sounds interesting.
Skippy hopes the results are like splitting hairs  so that  the difference in Blue Content is so minimal, it can not be noticed . Either way if you have good crops and do not have the time to really pick at the Peak Time............ you still are happy to get em into the fan pan and onto the desicant to keep them potent as posible.......... it is all good....
