A Simple Cube Grow
    #20008320 - 05/19/14 02:38 AM (9 years, 10 months ago)

START WITH AGAR!

I Went with no pour for this round just to keep things simple, because cubes love simple and i paid a buck a box of new jars so score:cool: i'm just gonna keep things super simple but effective for this grow and see where it goes it's really just something to keep me busy right now:lol:(disclaimer, some of the pics are not what i actually used, just to risky trying to take pics)

i used the 1/4 pint jellie jars this time

stab a hole with a screw driver

i'm gonna use poly but micropore works too

i take 3 pieces of poly

unroll them

put them together and roll them up

i then fold it in half and teist both ends together

there it is twisted as you can see at the bottom

stick that through your hole and pull it as tight as you can

now you can trim the poly and make it look pretty if ya want:cool:

TADDA!
now for the agar itself

i'll keep it simple for now but for great recipes check out franks agar media recipes out

i take my dry ingredients and mix them up and add them to hot water in a twist top pp5 container

here i heat it up with some boiling water to help dissolve all my ingredients and this is also where i add a drop or two of honey or karo and a little food coloring to keep things fun

i get my jars ready

spoon in enough in each jar to have a flat surface to work with(i use more in these then normal)

clean whatever mess i made up around the outside of the jar

put your lids on

your ready top pc, you will see i have a little left over agar but i'm not gonna use that as a dish but something to cool my loop with:super:

now inoculate with your favorite source and have fun(thats a transfer i made from the next pic buti never got to tend to it so i just used it for pic purposes but there's mold germinated there)
eventually your gonna need to use your agar to inoculate some grain jars

this is what i will be usingfor this grow and here's a little back history
i spawned a grain jar and used a left over grain to drop on agar(the grain jar was ms)

made a transfer

i took about 4 from this one but this is where i got lazy and caught up and they started pinning

i took a couple and transferred that to more agar and thats what i inoculated with

this is after i used it i just left it lol, but feeling cocky i decided to heat up a syringe tip and stab one of the pins and drop it in a grain jar which so far has worked well but anytway i'll fast soreward and say i got 3 masters that are ready so for for the first one i g2g

i'm gonna use that one jar for all that stuff there:crazy:

so i break my master up and get everything prepped for the sab but for this i just used my display case and set it on it's sid and used plastic so i could take pics, shifty but we'll see:lol:(i only did two jars in here for pics)

bands off then they get wiped down with alcohol

play safe not stupid

i'll put them on my shelf and keep ya posted on the other two masters i'm up in the air on that one right now

the jar i used the pin for:thumbup:

here i did a side by side of a grain jar simply given a light shake(left) and one shaken properly(right), notice the one i din't rotate as i shook all the colonized grains ended up in the same spot so rotate your jars when you shake!
now before i do any further expanding i'm gonna use one of the other jars to fruit out in the mean time so i went and grabbed some grass(just fucking around now), i made sure it was dried real well and not green anymore, i mixed it with about 15-20% steer manure(composted store bought),

i then brought it to field capacity and loaded into a jar and pasturized keeping my temps between 140-160 for and hour and wait for it to cool down and glove up and break it up as good as i can

add my colonized/dunked grains

mix it all up but i set some aside for a top layer, when i see the bigger pieces or green pieces i take them out

now i will wait 10-14 days for it to colonize before fruiting it!

so in the mean time i'm clean my cultures i just started up and my g2g jars are not far behind either:thumbup:

thts my nephew swirvin, keepin his eye on on shit:grin: got some coir and verm coming up for the mono tubs and started some quila for this one as well using syringes and agarand i'll be sure to update that with pics, my jars are almost done and i will be spawning them within

my pe6 culture was a very very slow colonizer, it took 28 days to colonize the grain spawn and another 16 to colonize the bulk at just over 1:1

--------------------

It doesn't matter what i think of you...all that matters is clean spawn

I'm tired do me a favor

Very Nice Post. I can't wait to see the results sir. I still haven't gotten around to no pour because I have all these damn petri's lying around. I will try the no pour soon. I like the added food coloring.

put a layer of grain underneath it... I know you know the idea... what the hell you waiting for?  it'll colonize much faster.  It's only going to get worse these next coming months..

or it may be that you have grass sticking out every which way... you need a mini weed wacker for that thing

Cron that is an excellent write up

I love the blue agar. Saw Pasty using red one time and always meant to dye my agar sometime.
No pours are the best IMO.  And fucking score on getting a box of jars for $1!!!!!!!

Naw, it was an old print from a Halloween special one time. Print's red, I isolated a strain on agar and it was sporeless the first flush and purple the second. I'll probably put it on agar again and just do one transfer so I can see how it does MS, maybe just make a syringe to try.

thats an odd one because i gave out a few rust spore prints and so far mione and another members spore color cam out purple too and spore color should always breed true from what i've been told

your results although not what you hoped for were still fucking awesome, it's sorta like you turned both the crs and albino a into regular cubes lol, my attempt at crossing them gave me  very light colored fruits like it almost worked out

there's another plate pinning as well right now so i still got my hopes up lol, my ksss cross attempt never really had a chance though, too much cloning and i don't get any of the stubby's anymore so i wouldn't be able to tell if it did work out but i will say that blinding attempting such shit is pretty fucking fun lol

Yeah it was fun. Plus enough weird things happened from me doing that, so I am pumped about the next generation with the black prints. The weird thing was how perfectly the traits overlapped, AA+ cap shapes and stipe was very similar as well, but cap color was CRS. The way that the caps and stipe ended up almost the same exact color was weird as well even tho they were darker than I'd hoped. If ya want a print of KSSS that is still little random lemme know, mine are not super mutants anymore either but, they ain't normal cubes by a long shot and I got some going right now I could print up :awesomenod:

and the grass sub is almost done but i may just toss it outside to fruit, just because it's nice enough to do so

I like that idea of having an extra plate to cool your tools in. I've definitely had agar boil up from where I touch it with a hot tool onto the side of the dish and cause problems before. I'm pouring agar tonight (it's cooling now) and will be doing some transfers in a day or 2. I'll try that out.

so it seems to be liking that manure quite a bit better than the grass, eh? Maybe cubensis isn't much of a grass-loving species... I guess you could call it a dung-lover.

(also everybody, I'm just joking, let's not get that whole debacle stirred up again )

alright my quila g2g is doine and i got two more jars that finished colonizing with my first  set of columbian rust spore jars going to theapprentice's outdoor thread that leaves me with 15 quila jars and baout 10 columbian rust spore jars(both ms) a columbian rust spore iso master and two tmf iso masters, so nw it's gonna be time to get into expansion and after seeing my test trays i'm happy with whats to come but sadly also the reason i'm gonna hold off on pics of the test subs for a bit:tokeeporder:

but here's some mex myc i'm working on(jalisco)

some bisporous

pasturized a qt of grass for another iso test, i like those thermometers because that thing that sticks out keeps the probe right at the center of a qt jar:cool:

picked up these guys at a garage sale, 25 cents for a set of four but i got fourty for 7 bux:crazy:
anyway i'll be back in a couple to a few days to update again

sorry for the lack of updates, i got caught up in outdoor hype...sorta an addiction for me lol. i pout my first set of jars outdoors to a pile of grass clippings(the crs iso), but i got a whack of quila cubensis ready to rock and will be spawning hopefully today if my coir shows up, if not it will be tommorow to straw and manure.

the first grass clipping sub did fucking great, actually still doing fairly good as i just pulled a 12 gram 3rd flush from it:rockon:

anywho i'll get some pics up tonight of some jars/clones/plates i'm still working on(i got some pe6 plates pining heavy)

I love coir but I just found a source for free cow and horse manure, worm castings and now straw so I think I will be moving on from coir. I have also decided to get away from actives for a while after the summer is over. I plan on filling my basement with straw logs and growing tones of eatables.

That would be awesome. I was just about to order an oyster culture but my wife says the Master card is off limits for a while. I wish I could send you something in return But all I have ATM are some B+ and JAS prints. I could send you some stamps or agar or something.

well i donated my pe6 print to a greater cause i did get a coupel plates fisrt as shown in the original post, made transfers with one and left the other to pin for a quick clone, this i find is a risky move though as you can't tell much by theway they perform on agar:lol:

there's a quila jar(it's a suspect at this point in time), there all done and my sub is cooling right now

quila,jalisco,bisporous

well just a very late update that all worked out great other then my pans, i found pin on them today about 13 days after casing them but i got more jars to try and lots to work with.
my pe6 culture was a very very slow colonizer, it took 28 days to colonize the grain spawn and another 16 to colonize the bulk at just over 1:1

i'm just glad to get prints:cheers:
