Lets see, you planted them two months ago,  so they've only been rooted a month give or take.  Have some patience   It takes time,  but once they get their momentum going, they'll start doubling and tripling in size every year.

they're looking better and better but, the fat one seems to look thirsty every 7 days. As long as the soil's dry a couple inches down(and there is a layer of lava rocks at the bottom) is there a problem w watering every 7 days when it looks thirsty or should I wait it out? I'm also in tx getting upper 90's everyday.

on another note I've moved them from being on a shaded porch w no direct sunlight to being under a large tree w broken shade/sun and they really seem to like it better.

Every 7 days is great if the temps are in the high 90s, I might even water more often if your soil dries out more quickly.

Updating since I'm just now able to really take them outside and leave them out all day. I kept them in a window in the laundry room all winter and am really surprised at how much they grew. They've been outside a week now and looking awesome now that springs kickin in here.

same two guys from the op, dubbed chris farley and ODB.

When should I think about larger pots or new soil?

not to be that guy, but you should have covered them over winter if you couldnt keep them outside. they didn't get enough light in that window.

they stretched quite a bit which isn't that big of a deal but i like to have my cactus the same width from base to tip. structurally it also holds up better when the cactus gets big.

but still, nice cacti bro.

edit: take what i said with a grain of salt. i leave my cactus outside year round so they never get skinny but i guess its normal for cactus to grow skinny first and then fill out? its just mine get taller and wider at the same time, not taller, then wider.

Decided its time to update this. I can't post much but this site still helps me w problems a lot.

Yes, those are larger pots than I originally planted them in. Aft this season I plan on upgrading the soil and pots but, I wanna let em fatten up some this year.

Nice update. They're looking good and the only real advice I can offer is to pot them into pots at least twice the size they're in now. If you do this at the start of the season you should see some good growth. As it is those plants are probably root bound and this will slow their growth to probably half of what you'd get if you re potted now.

Or at least square pots with same size one funnel shape clay pot takes.

I think funnel shape clay pot is about 70% size of square form. I've noticed it helps a lot and you can grow 2-3 years more trichocereus cactus and roots will be fine.

Bigger pots are better of you can go that route. I got my short spine peruvianus in a 15 gallon pot.
