This is not a new find, or new news.  I've been growing mushrooms commercially on conifer sawdust since day one of our mushroom farm.  I've also posted extensively about it.  Simply search using my name, conifer sawdust, commercial mushroom farm, as the filters to get lots of threads.  It just needs to be aged in the sun for a year or two.

Thats right RR has always used conifer and it bugs me how we can say it over and over again that it's good to use, especially for bloody out door beds, its rediculous. He grows friggin shiitake comercially on conifer and you think some simple ass vigorous active woodlovers wont just eat it up?

Ive said it a thousand times

WOW! How incredibly rude and uncalled for. Its news to me! I've never read anything about pine (before this helpful thread)other than mycelium has a hard time breaking it down. When you know better you do better right?

I'm still learning and I'm going to continue to try to do that (hopefully in peace).

he also said it needs to be aged in the sun for a year or two... i don't think that i can come up with anything like that in a month. So as for an alternative, if i don't want to give my myceleium anything that may hinder growth (unaged/unweathered/untreated pine), though i will try it out just to see the difference since it is so abundant and easy to obtain, what should i get and where? are store bought chips ok?

You have Douglas fir and Western larch in your area.  Both are better than pine.

Hi. I have made a fresh pile of sweet gum woodchips. Is the aging process only applicable to conifer chips & sawdust?

Thanks!
