What went wrong with your trip to Australia? Other than the majority of the food I had being shitty, I had a great time.

Probably from all the forest fires this summer.  My place has been full of smoke for three weeks now from all the fires burning in eastern BC.  Hopefully, the rain later this week will put some of them out.

Ticks are nothing in BC.  There's a few, but if you really want ticks, go to Texas or Oklahoma.

Plus, the farther you are from the Northeast, the less likely you are to find a tick carrying Lyme's disease. It's pretty rare in the Pacific Northwest.

I've been to NSW & Victoria (spent time in Sydney, Melbourne and on the coast by the 12 Apostles) and also BC (Vancouver, Whistler, and a tiny town way up in the mountains called Clint). Both NSW and BC were truly beautiful places but personally I would choose to live in BC. Watching the seasons change in the Rockies seals the deal.

I love living in Canada but the winters in Quebec are the worst, I cannot wait to move. The people are pretty chill over here, although I haven't spent too much time outside Quebec. I've spend a couple weeks in Australia as a kid with my dad I loved it, more beautiful than eastern Canada for sure. Also, Australia has more interesting wildlife if you ask me.

Canada only requires your dog have his shots, plus you need to get a form from Canada customs and have your vet fill it out and sign it.  I take my dog into Canada all the time, since I only live a few miles from the border.

I grew up in Melbourne Australia my whole life and while I am fond of this city and country I would pick Canada without hesitation.
I have lived in Vancouver for a year and found it supernatural. I don't know how your spreadsheet ranks Vancouver low on the supernatural/lake/nature factors but it is leaps and bounds beyond what Australia has to offer. There are not many cities like Vancouver where mountains surround you and you can take a local bus to go snowboarding 10 min from the city.

Although I am speaking with a grass is greener perspective, but i've done extensive travel of the westcoast of North America, and i was truly blown away with the diversity the continent has  to offer (and that was just only the west side). Yes Australia is diverse, but you will have to travel a long way before you notice any difference in landscape. Sure we have deserts, mountains, beaches, lakes and that, but I feel like you get a lot more bang for buck in North America, especially if you're based in Vancouver. There's a high density of impressive and diverse national parks and nature within a smaller radius.

When you live here for a long time, the scenery becomes a little stale. I get tired of seeing eucalyptus trees everywhere in OZ! The trees in the PNW are gorgeous and really lights up the landscape. There are many different types of native trees in PNW that really makes it so nice to immerse yourself or see it from a distance.

I would find it very hard to believe if anyone from the PNW to get tired of their nature. If you drove 6+hours from Vancouver you would get to see awe-inspiring country and mountains. You're next to Alaska and just a day trip away from California, which is arguably the best place for nature/city living. Then you have the entire southwest to explore (Utah, Colorado, Arizona) with amazingly jaw dropping nature.

Although if you do become an Australian citizen, you have the advantage to live in NZ which offers some amazing nature. But North America really has better infrastructure for nature and outdoor activities. You can roadtrip anywhere in the continent and you have cheap and short international flights to other places around the world. From Australia expect to always pay at least $1600+ flights to most places in the world and 24 hour flying.

I know this thread is old but i'll just leave my thoughts here if anyone does stumble upon it. I'm curious to hear where you ended up living and how that's working out for you.

It's funny, I live in Vancouver (although was raised in the interior of BC.) Although it is beautiful, i certainly take it for granted!

CANADA. I wouldnt want to live anywhere else. From coast to coast you have the rugged east coast, the shield terrain, rugged and rolling with swathes of untouched forest, the prairie, mountains and even a Mediterranean style climate in Victoria BC. It is a wonderful place that provides a good quality of life and is very diverse and wonderful.

I agree with everything LordHuron says. However, i would like to live somewhere like Hawaii or Australia with warmer weather year around ....

New Zealand sounds very comparable to Canada, although maybe less diverse?

Maybe whoever is trying to make this decision is very indecisive or an intense procrastinator! didnt think about that did you!
