Growth conditions and behaviour of Semilanceata
    #19963730 - 05/09/14 01:12 PM (10 years, 8 months ago)

It is said that P. semilanceata doesn´t grow directly on poo. So they seem to live in the soil, and just grow around some poo because they like to nibble a bit from time to time, or they may just feed from washed-out poo nutrients in the soil solution?

I know they can be forced to colonise horsepoo in a jar, but they do not seem to like that. I´ve read that it takes quite long.

And what kinds of soil do they like? I live in an area between three different landscapes: the franconian mountains (limestone or limy loam), the sandy regnitz valley (low clay content, more or less acidic) and some hills of heavy clay in between (rather high lime content). Where do you people usually find them?

By the way, if someone has some spores left, or knows a place in northern bavaria or in hessia where some samples can be taken, pm me.

they like grass roots, they tend to germinate inside cows so yes they like manure, and in my experience it really doesn't take much longer to colonize subs then most common mushrooms, other then that there's alot to learn from and about them and they are by far my favorite mushroom because of it

They germinate inside cows?

Who came up with that? And how did they find out?

Hey there,

I know this post is quite old, but I'm wondering if the thread opener (or anybody else) has yet found out which region / ground of upper franconia is best for finding semilanceata.

I'm living in the same region and am still trying to find a proper spot. Any other place in Germany seems to be better than franconia (i.e. I find more).

Cheers!
