first psilocybe of the year
    #1994467 - 10/09/03 05:42 PM (20 years, 6 months ago)

today i found one shroom, i'm not sure what the species is but it was definatly a psilocybe. last year i found a single one in the same spot. they where similar to cyan's but they were smaller and only had a slight wave going on. they were growing in an alder thicket among the leaves.
any ideas what they are?

Did it have a stem? How about a cap, did it have a cap?

well; read the stickie threads on identifying mushrooms, and return here and post a full description.

saying it's just like a cyan except for some details is not helpful because i don't know what features you did take into account.

There is no such thing as an alder thicklet. Alder is a tree and the shrooms appear in mulch made from alder bark or wood chips or saw dust. Not a thicket.

WE need a picture of the shroom to identify what it is you found.

Here is a view of an alder thicket.

Mushrooms can grow in an alder thicket as psillicyan said.

Mushrooms do not appear in mulch they appear on the mulch.

psillicyan-

I am aware that cyans have variable sizes. Suntzu found some cyans that were no taller than an inch, and had caps no larger than a quarter at full maturity. What makes you think they are not cyans?

Azures are usually larger than cyans. The user is in BC as well. Azures are not reported to grow wild in the users area.

LOL alder thickets are some of the best shroom picking in the PNW.The shrooms can arise from ALMOST ANY surface strata as long as the mycelia is established in the mulch substrate,This can be as simple as a pile of sticks covered with forest humus for cyans,or a complex sandy mulch for azures.
Ps semillanceata also will appear around the perimeter of an alder thicket( even sans bovines) in the grass as alder are nitrogen fixing and greatly enrich the surrounding soil.
This is just how it is in the PNW ,perhaps there are no alder thickets in Thailand :wink:only mulch and sawdust

Which part?

This site is about providing accurate information. WR gave accurate information.

How would you have approached it?

I am refering to the part where he was being sarcastic toward MJ.

Maybe it's just me but it gets me when rudeness breaks out in a thread. it's contagious.

i'd like to think ew could be helpful and polite to one another at the same time.

on the other hand; maybe i'm just more sensitive to this right now and i should let it be.

I would leave it...I think it is good for others to see good communication.

I think we all know that sarcasm can sometimes bite...we should all be a bit more empathetic.
