Okay, I will now present some information. Dimmu Borgir is heavy metal. Very good heavy metal. Dimmu Borgir is very melodic. Has a real black sound to it. Very fucking heavy. Dimmu Borgir uses a lot of cool synths. Synths add texture. Dimmu Borgir has the fastest drummer in the world. He has machine-gun double bass abilities. Dimmu Borgir has a kick-ass live show. Very loud. Very good stage presensce. Dimmu Borgir are gods. This message was not made due to external pressures to make it. Check out www.dimmuborgir.com for more information. Peace.

Okay, fixed the link. Yeah, Nile's drummer is pretty insanely fast as well.. I will have to do a comparison listen between the two and find out who is faster...
Saw them in Bergen in a small club about a month back. Extremely metal. Peace.

if you think Dimmu Borgir are gods, then i know you havent heard the last Nile cd "in their darkened shrines" complete&utter progressive "death" metal. As a drummer myself i am fascinated by this guy, he manages to accent on his blast beats, and repeat certain hi-hat patterns whilst doing so, truly awesome. Listening to this c.d.leaves me with the impression i have just been beaten with a club in an ampitheatre, by a 12ft Ibis headed deity, with a whip on his belt and clutching a papyrus scroll with my name on it summoning me for pyramid duty.

They do rock, but obituary's drummer was even faster/harder/ He either died or was kicked, I forget, and they couldn't find anyone as fast so they started using a beat machine.

I think their earlier work is much better. And I'm not so much into metal anymore these days...
If you like Dimmu Borgir you should get this cd: Covenant - Nexus Polaris it also has members of dimmu in it. one of my BEST metal cd's.

Interesting note, I have seen some churches that had to be rebuilt because those fuckers burnt them down..
Mayhem are insane. Their original guitarist, Euronymous, fucking ate their singer's brains in a stew when he shot himself in the head...
Haven't actually heard the music, though. Is it good? Peace.

really?
Mayhem is very raw black metal. the earlier stuff is slower and their mewer things are fastre and more technical. Don't know about how they are now; I'm out of the metal scene since a few years.

Yeah, they are fairly chaotic as well... slaughtering sheeps at shows and stuff.
I understand that they are still around, I wish to download some of their stuff, but Soul Seek hasn't been in operation for a few days now..
Ever hear of Mercyful Fate? I guess they were basically the first black metal band, and they were from Denmark. King Diamond is their singer, he has all sorts of solo albums as well.. I find them interesting to listen to.
I am not really into like straight death metal or black metal, though. I am really interested in the Gothenburg bands and like Dimmu Borgir because they right really melodic, heavy songs. There is something about the sound that really gets to me, I guess.. I espeically like Dimmu Borgir because of their liberal use of "evil" synths, synths really round out and texture the sound.. especially live (saw them with Immortal in Bergen).
And, of course, IN FLAMES is my favourite band. They fit the idea of music to me more than any other one band.. I have a tight-knit group of bands that really have a lot of different elements that I love and will incorporate into my band's own sound..
The main groups are like IN FLAMES, METALLICA, and Dimmu Borgir, and then like TOOL, Iron Maiden, Opeth, Dark Tranquillity, Megadeth, Children of Bodom, Symphony X, Mudvayne, System of a Down, Black Sabbath.. hell, even a little bit of Rush and Pink Floyd..
But yeah. Some revoultionized and creative metal will be coming your way in a year or two... it is being finely developed and forged right now, a lot of building of technique and knowledge by those invovled..
Skooma will rule forever! Peace.

If you like things with cool synths you should check out this album: Abigor - Supreme immortal art Lots of the bands that I used to like dont make such music as they used to unfortunately. Immortal can be nice too and one of my favorite albums is one of Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane. You should really check it out if you don't know it already. They don't exist anymore as a band though, so no new albums will come out.

Immortal doesn't exist anymore as a band? I just saw them open up for Dimmu a month ago... has it been since then?!
I am not familiar with their songs, but I have started a collection. Eternal Years on the Path to the Cemetary really stuck out last night (after reading this forum, I decided to really listen to my extreme metal, Immortal and Nile). I remember the title from the concert (when they started playing, I didn't even know that it was them, I just sort of assumed it was.. but it was! hehe). The song is crazy because there is some sort of continous noise... I don't know if it some effect off of the guitars or some weird vocal noise or something, but it is sort of staticy, really haunting... Peace.

You wouldn't have some mayhem links would you? I can only find one an it doesn't list any details about the suicide/murders, just that they occured.

I read about it in Guitar World, when they had their 25 Weirdest Guitarists article.
I have searched their site and found nothing, and my Guitar World magazines were left with my lead guitarist back in the United States, so I couldn't offer anything more, except that Euronymous was eventually stabbed to death by a Count Grishknack (or something) from another band..
Crazy fuckers, these black metal guys are... thank god Dimmu still concentrates on the music itself, and not burning down churches over here or anything like that... Peace.

eyh, fellow viking! windir - kampen is teh shit! accordion viking metal! but i prefer a bit more melodic, fantasylike metal and the closest i've heard from norway would be sins of thy beloved. rhapsody and blind guardian rules all, even though they aren't even vikings.
