casing colonization question
    #1994942 - 10/09/03 10:03 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

AFOAF has this casing that has had very little growth (almost non-exsistant) begin to colonize the casing layer. He believes they layer may be too thick. He is planning on giving it a few more days (its been weeks) before scraping away the layer and making a thinner one. Then perhaps a cold-shock. Does this sound like what should be done? Any advice

Is the casing layer about 1/4 the substrate?
How fast is the visible myc. spreading?
It shouldn't hurt to give it a few more days.

The same thing happened with two of my friend's casings. Even after 3 weeks two trays still wouldn't colonize, they weren't contaminated, just slow. Give it a few sniffs to check for contams, if none, then scrape and cold shock for 24 hours. What strain are you using, do you have an incubator?

No cold shock -- keep it at incubating conditions until it's run through the casing. People will have to know what type of casing to help further.
