Potency on different substrates?
    #1994532 - 10/09/03 08:00 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

I was reading in the Trip Tips forum about how their newly grown shrooms weren't as potent as ones they've had before. Someone replied mentioning that different substrates give higher potency. So, what substrates give more potent mushrooms?

there is a rediculous amount of debate on this. Personally im waiting for Anno to come up with some conclusive data in her thread here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...part=1&vc=1 personally i believe alot of it is in your head. Lots of people that are new to growing mushrooms grow on BRF cakes, and being new to it i imagine some part of them is hesitant to believe that they did it correctly, setting up for a weak trip. Whereas casing and other more advanced methods, people have more confidence in what they are doing. Either way, grow mushrooms, eat mushrooms, enjoy the show.

JSlice: Cool. I've never had 'em before, so I'm just excited for any kinda trip I get.

Another question then. So then why do people grow on diff substrates? Is it due to the potency issue? available materials? Larger yields? Anyone care to comment? Now that my FOAF has done BRF, he's curious about different substrates.
