Suggestion for Southwestern USA Peyote Growers

May I make a suggestion?
For those of you that live in the Southwestern United States and grow peyote-
For humans to be offered such a gift from Mother Nature, I feel it is our spiritual duty to transplant a small portion of grafts back to nature. (in the appropriate habitat, of course)
Help an endangered species survive the less informed.

It would really suck, though, to be trying to re-introduce some home grown peyote to the wild and get mistaken for someone trying to harvest it. What could you say to get out of it? Either way you are seriously screwed.

Peyote have a fairly specific microclimate they survive in. They get lots of rain during the warmest months as a result of the proximity of their habitat to the gulf. Most if not all of the southwest would not provide enough moisture to sustain all but very mature lophophora. It is a noble goal though, just have to find an appropriate area.

Or you could sow some seed back in the wild. Being almost continually in flower, and a self-fertile species, L. williamsii produces seed so prolifically, I always have stacks of them. And the seed of almost all cactus species looks the same, lil black dots.

Spanishfly: This is the 5th thread from over 1 year ago you have bumped up. One of them was 11 years old. Take heed of the message given when attempting to reply to old threads.

So I replied to an old thread. It happened to interest me and may interest others. Presumably that is why they are still there.

From the EG Rules
Quote:
- Do not bump old threads unless you truly have something relevant to add. It is not against the rules, just considered to be bad form. If you have a question, please start a new thread to avoid jacking other peoples threads.
Not a major problem, but it is ^considered to be bad form. In some cases, the original posters are no longer with us and the threads died their natural death

It's common forum etiquette across the interwebz.
Google 'Thread necromancy' and you should understand why after having a read.
It's cool to bump old threads sometimes, but this one for example could of stayed dead. There's newer threads about this topic that would of been better to add information to.
