First harvest! / Puert Rican producing small fruits
    #19910148 - 04/28/14 01:16 AM (10 years, 8 months ago)

Here's an update on my growth, still looking healthy to everyone, right? The middle jar is showing what I think is rhyzmophic growth. Any opinions?

All 5 jars:

Jar 1:

Jar 2:

Jar 3:

Jar 4:

Jar 5:

*******UPDATE********
Re-arranged my cake to add 2 more cakes to the fruiting chamber.

My FC is a traditional SGFC 1-4" holes drilled on all six sides.
I also have 3.5-4 on perlite on the bottom.

I discovered a fat pin on the bottom of the cake which is new not one that was previously pinned invitro. The rest of my cake has no new pins.

The strain is Puerto Rican, known to be notoriously fussy fruiters.

My cakes were all dunked/cold shocked and rolled.
Humidity has been reading at 85-90 at most, but I know my hygrometer is most likely inaccurate.
I have been misting/fanning once an hour.
I work nights so I am gone between 6-8 hours.( which is why I'm misting fanning every hour while I'm here.)
At night humidity drops to around 70. Temp is constant between 75-77 f.

Does everything sound okay?
In your opinion should I toss or wait it out?
You may choose only one

1. No visible myc. If the white spots you have  are growing it's probably a bacteria or mold.
2. Wrong jars.
3. Unless the aluminum foil is your lid it is removed and left off after pressure cooking and your dry verm layer protects it. Leaving the foil on causes to much moisture and loss of gas exchange capability.

Thanks you, looks like I'll be giving it another run. These were the only jars available in the dept stores near me and they didn't have lids so I tried improvising. Will be tossing these, I have the correct mason jars with lids so I'll let you know my progress when I actually have some.

Your grocery store probably have these, http://www.shroomery.org/11387/Plastic-tek

you'll have a lot of hard time to take your cakes out of your jar, you need wider one, and this plastik tek is a good alternative accessible to everyone and even good for agar shit!
Good Luck

I actually found the correct mason jars with lids for my next go at it. Thank you all. And do you have any idea what bacteria/mold that was? Didn't fit any discriotions I've seen about them but then again there are so many. Didn't realize you could click the pics to make them larger lol.

I will update when my second batch (hopefully) takes off

Those specs just look like brown rice kernels that have swelled due to water. Mine have that too! There is no visible myc in those though

Okay that sounds like a possibility. I tossed the jars just to be on the safe side. There was no weird smell which is why I was up in the air about it.

Okay so these aren't the absolute correct jars, but they'll do.

I pressure cooked brf and verm jars 6 days ago, inoculated, and incubated in a 5 gallon bucket. The bucket and cabinet were both sprayed with hospital grade germicide (I have dogs, extra precaution) with the lid very loosely on it.

Left them alone (generally) then decided to check them around day 4.
I left tape off one jar to see if the tape I was using to cover the inoculation holes has been allowing air exchange.

The jar without tape showed the first signs of growth so I decided to take the tape off all jars and now I see growth on 3/5 jars.

Does this look normal? Any advice/criticism welcome!

And I will be buying the Tupperware next go around so I can finally have the CORRECT containers lol. TYIA!

Looks good from what I can see. The issue with those jars is colonization of the bottom sometimes stalls. They do work a lot of the time and will hopefully work for you.

One started colonizing from almost the bottom, so I'm hoping I won't have many problems. And now 4/5 are showing growth. So happy to hear its looking normal, next step, perfecting my FC.

Yea I realized that once I got home, and planned on doing so. Not to worried about it, the one in the middle has the most growth so far, a growth area under all inoculation points
