i say some guys can pull it off some cant.
i like my guy clean and shaven when i want to touch him or look at him.. the scruff makes him look like a bad ass which also appeals to me.
with the scruff the kisses are irritating to the skin though.
he said hes going with a handle bar mustache and a mullet (70's porn star)... not sure if i can dig that lol.

I can't let a thread about beards stay dead.
For me the appeal is largely tactile. You know that look a dog gets on it's face when you scratch it in just the right spot? I couldn't understand it until I had a beard to scratch. Having a beard is like a consolation prize for not having a G-spot. All those nerves on the face get stimulated every time the beard is touched, every time the wind blows, every time I nuzzle into a pillow at night.
Also, having a beard prevents shaving, an act that irritates the skin and involves dragging a razor blade across the sensitive skin of the face and neck. The razor blade leaves a bunch of sharpened hairs all over the face. This turns your face into an inverse iron maiden. Shaving also promotes acne and and ingrown hairs. Sure, you could slather your face with chemicals to help prevent these problems, but why?
Beard maintenance is also a pleasure, as it involves playing with one's beard, which is similar to a covert form of masturbation.
The beard can also hold smells pretty well. It holds the smell of a meal, a hint of the smell of the oral gratification of a lover, even the smell of a recently smoked bowl.
All in all, having a beard is a wonderful sensory experience. I'd have to resent any girl who felt that I needed to mutilate myself by shaving it off. And as a final statement on "why love the beard?", I can do this in real life:
In response to the stuff about no beards in corporate culture, I think the idea is rationalized (at least in some of the corporate cultures my frinds work in) from a pretty ridiculous study that that showed that people with beards were perceived as less honest. However, according to another study these views may have changed:
http://chronicle.com/blogs/percolator/the-trustworthiness-of-beards/22581
I would guess that the inherent sliminess of corporate culture is at least partly responsible for changing people's stereotypes about beards. After-all, only a truly dishonest authority would demand a lack of beards just to look honest, so you can probably trust people that have the beard-integrity to rebel against such heinous and unjust rules.
I'd also like to apologize on behalf of my beard if it's tickliness or scratchiness has offended any of the ladies in the world. Your tolerance is appreciated.

At a family reunion about 5 female members of my family made me shave mine. Maybe they don't like beards or they think that I personally don't look good wearing one.

I think looking older extremely appealing to younger men
People tend to take older guys more seriously than younger men because of some kind of implied wisdom/experience/maturity. It's complete bullshit too because the proportion of older guys who are immature losers that don't have their shit together seems to be just as high as younger men.
When I was 17 I had already been living on my own in an entirely different country than my parents for 3 years, and was running my own business (granted I got started using my parents generous capital). I felt like I had the maturity/experience of a person twice my age yet could help shake the feeling that people thought of me as "just another" snotty teenager, especially at first glance.
Growing facial hair helped a great deal. Men took me more seriously and women, not just girls suddenly became available.
So ye beards are amazing. They allow you to appear different ages, look more mature, keep you warm and can be styled to make you look both sophisticated and wise or laid back and feral. Beards are awesome.
