Im glad people like it

I love Distilling my own alcohol, I use it for everything cleaning, burning, drinking and I have even got a lawnmower to run on my brew!

I next want to get a cer running off this stuff, But there is alot of stuff you need to do to a gasoline burn'n engine before it will run well on ethanol.

P.S:
Quote:

A big fear for many new distillers is that they are risking poisoning themselves with methanol - a toxin that can cause blindness. There is little basis for this fear however; if formed, it is only in small amounts, and can be easily discarded with the "heads" collected first
A simple (but effective) rule of thumb for this is to throw away the first 50 mL you collect (per 20 L mash used) for a reflux still. If using a potstill, make it more like 100-200 mL. Do this, and you have removed all the hazardous foreshots, including the methanol. To get a really clean distinction between the foreshots and the rest of the alcohol, increase the reflux ratio to the point where you're taking off this first 50 mL at a very slow rate (eg 1 drop per second). This will give a very stable equilibrium within the column to allow all the methanol to collect at the top of the column and be in this first portion.

Doing this removes the shit that causes hangovers... and/or death. BE SAFE!!!

Ok so my friend is making a pot still out of an old keg. He was wondering if it has to be refluxed? Or can the colum just be packed with pot scrubers alone. With out any sort of other cooling unite like in a refluxed still.

No, because that would make it a reflux still

Just run some copper pipe from the top, coil it to make a condenser place the coil in some water and you have a pot still.

Simple as that.

So dont put the packing in it. Can it be a colum with packing with a pipe angled downwards. Is that considered to be refluxed? I am cunfused. It would be nice to have a colum with the packing for the purpose of puritie. The unit he is making is rather large. It is being made out of a beer keg. Would it be best to use small coiled copper tubing or make a two inch copper colum. Also if a colum is needed does it need to be cooled with water.

Neat, a good friend of mine is suppose to teach me how to make my own wine. But distilling... sounds fun too!

Thanks for the link.

The http://www.amazingstill.com works surprisingly well if anyone wants a simple method.. it doesn't reach the strengths of other stills but 40-50% vol is enough for most people

Interesting stuff! But I think I will stick to making beer and possibly wine.
I never was a big liquor fan.

Alcohol is very useful for more than getting drunk...

Making Absinthe and making Psilocybin extracts are just two that come to mind
