How to store mushrooms long/short-term properly - TEK 1

From a chefs prospective:
Depending upon variables normal short-term storage of fresh mushrooms can last up to 14 days. Rarely will they last longer and most restaurants would throw them out by then. But if your determined to see how long you can keep fresh mushrooms... well fresh, than this is how to do it.
If you would rather store them dry then there are numerous methods. In fact, there are so many methods I cant possible list them all here. So whichever method you use to dry them you can still follow the next steps to make sure they last a long time without going bad. Just make sure your mushrooms are CRACKER-DRY for long-term storage!
I encourage friends to discuss how they store their product and help others in their attempt.
TO STORE FRESH:
Handle with care and treat it like its living! Dry your mushrooms off before storing and take off any bad spots! Wet mushrooms will go bad quicker! Keep them inside a dry airtight container! Place the container in a fridge draw or someplace that stays colder. Put a paper towel in the bottom to absorb condensation. Exposing to air will shrivel them up.
TO STORE LONG-TERM IN FREEZER
Place in freezer zip lock bag! Press all the air out of it! Put that bag inside another bag! Try to eliminate the outside elements from being absorbed inside!
TO STORE LONG-TERM ON DRY SHELF
Place all cracker dry mushrooms in a container! Put something to absorb moisture inside like rice, cracker, oatmeal! You can place on a cool dry shelf anyplace away from direct sunlight!

good write up. I like to dry mine in my excalibur dehydrator on full blast (around 160*F) then.
Once cracker dry I'll store in a foodsaver bag with all the air sucked out with a desiccant pack and put it in the freezer, for extreme long term storage.
Or i'll put them in a gallon mason jar with a few desiccant packs thrown in there and eat them within the next few months.

I like to throw dried mushrooms in mason jars w/ a small silica packet.
I would say your methods are pretty spot on. Although i dont like the idea of freezing any mushroom, just doesn't feel right.

From what I've always been told and what always has worked well for me, don't put fresh mushrooms in something airtight, they seem to store better in something like a small paper bag in the fridge.
If you put wet mushrooms in the freezer they will turn to mush(no pun intended) when you thaw them out.
And how I always store cracker dry mushrooms is in an airtight container with a teabag full of desiccant.

I have mine in containers with desiccant packs but I'm now going to put them into vacuum sealed bags with desiccant for longer term storage.
Does anybody have any experience with re-dehydrating shrooms before putting them into vacuum sealed packs? I wonder if it would reduce potency.

Use a desiccant like "Drierite"
You can buy blue or white the blue stuff changes color when the desiccant is spent.
Plus the white stuff is just calcium sulfate(gypsum) so add to your WBS too if you want. Useful stuff and very cheap

Also, I added on someone else's thread around here that you can just throw them in a quart jar and get a jar vacuum sealer for about $5-$10 at Walmart. Then just use your traditional vacuum sealer or use a brake bleed pump to evacuate the air out and then you won't even need desiccant packages.
