quick PC depressurizing and cooling

I stumbled upon a quick way to depressurize and cool my pressure cooker after use. So usually you turn off the element and take the weight off the top valve, which slowly lets the pressure out, right? On mine, there is a rubber safety plug, that I'm assume will blow out if the pressure gets too high. What I do is use a long wooden spoon, and push the plug out, into the cooker itself. This is a very loud process, but within about 30 seconds it's over and done with. I've noticed no damage to the plug after doing this, as the ridges that prevent it from falling into the cooker are very slight and easy to push past. So right away you can take the lid off, pull your stuff out (with an oven mitt!) dump the water, and then run some cool water over it to cool the metal down. 5 minutes after cooking you can have it all put away!
Just thought I'd share this tip with the forum

Don't release the pressure like that, it makes the contents boil over/dry out. If that happens it can over the top of jars will nutrient what will allow contams in. My PC manual says the best way it to run it under the hot tap. But I don't do that, I just turn of the gas 10 mins early and let it cool down on its own.

this is a very bad procedure. the water inside the pressure cooker and the jars is at far above boiling temps. the only reason it's not boiling is because it's at pressure. if you remove pressure while the temp is still above 212, the water in the PC and in the jars will boil ferociously. this is dangrous and bad for your substrate. it will dry out your more than baking them at 250 would. do not attempt to remove pressure until it has cooled to below 212 degrees. by this point, it will have come down to normal atmospheric pressure on its own.

Yeah you dont wanna do that. It sucks waiting for it, especially when you have several runs, but its best for everything if you let it lose pressure at its own pace. Doesnt sound very safe either, pushing the plug in.

I had the same problem, so I don't use jars when doing cakes, I use plastic microwaveable dishes, the sort that takeways sometime come in, works fine.
